Wembley High Technology College is a mixed gender, non-denominational, secondary school based in the London Borough of Brent. The school has Academy status, which means it is funded directly by the central government in Westminster, instead of the local authority, as is the case with regular comprehensive secondary schools. This status was introduced by the government in an attempt to help raise standards in comprehensive schools across the United Kingdom and ensure schools meet minimum curriculum requirements.

The school serves students aged eleven through to sixteen for Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 (GCSE). It also serves students aged sixteen to nineteen in the ever popular Sixth Form for a variety of subjects at AS Level and A2 Level.

At Key stage 4 the school curriculum gives prominence to English, Mathematics and Science but also allows students to study a variety of other subjects including Art, Drama, Music, French, history, Design Technology and Religious Studies to provide a rounded and holistic learning experience.
At AS Level and A2 Level students have the option to study from a variety of subjects including English, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics. In most cases students study four subjects at AS Level and 3 subjects at A2 Level.
After completing AS Level and A2 Level most students go onto higher education, with a selection also going to some of the UkÔÇÖs most prestigious universities. The school offers specialist help to encourage students to aim for these prestigious institutions by working directly with the universities and organisations such as The Sutton Trust, which was founded to improve social mobility through education.
As well as offering an environment to exceed academically the school encourages its students to take part in a variety of extra-curricular activities. This includes a variety of sports clubs, music clubs and off site visits to museums and events. Students are also encouraged to set up and run clubs in areas that are of interest to them personally. This can include choirs, drama club and debating societies.

The current head teacher of the school is Ms Gill Bal, who has been applauded publically and in Ofsted reports for her contribution to bringing huge improvements to the schoolÔÇÖs performance in recent years. Partly as a result of this admissions demand for places at the school is extremely high, with statics for the most recent round of admissions at Year 7 showing over 1200 applications for 210 available places.

Ofsted

About Ofsted

Ofsted have been inspecting schools on a regular basis since 2005. After a cursory warning period they undertake a thorough examination of the whole school. Inspectors will sit in on classes, assessing each teacher's teaching ability. They will also evaluate the way the current curriculum is implemented, and how the progress of each student is tracked throughout their tenure.

Each school is graded on a four point scale: 1 being outstanding, 2 being good, 3 means they require improvement, and 4 signifying inadequate. Those schools attaining an outstanding or good grade might not be re-inspected for as long as five years; while those receiving lower grades will be reassessed with greater frequency, with little or no notice prior to the inspectors arriving.
