Information about Liz

I moved to London in October 2017 after graduating from the University of Cambridge with a degree in Japanese and Sociology. Since beginning work as a private tutor, I have taught over 100 students.

I am confident to tutor a wide range of subjects, ranging from KS2 to A Level, though am most experienced with English and Sociology tuition. Oxbridge admissions, university applications, and support with humanities or essay-based courses are also areas in which I am constantly helping students. Across all subjects offered, I have a strong familiarity with mark schemes, exam boards, and access to past papers and related content.

Other subjects include: Maths, French, History and, of course, Japanese. I also took the International Baccalaureate (an A Level equivalent). This means that I am also qualified to tutor IB subjects and am extremely familiar with the different style.

Availability: In August, a wide and flexible availability. In term-time: Mondays 9am-12pm, 2.30pm-4.30pm, 6.30pm onwards; Tuesdays 9am-1pm, 6pm onwards; Wednesdays 9am-1.45pm, 4pm onwards; Thursdays 12.30pm-4pm, 6pm onwards; Fridays 9am-4pm, 6pm onwards; Saturday and Sunday mornings.

Willing to travel: 10 miles

Experience: Private tuition:

English -
3 KS2 student, with a focus on SATs and 11+ VR.
8 KS3 students, with content ranging from an in-depth reading of a novel to essential pre-GCSE grammar and vocabulary training.
10 GCSE students, focusing on extensive exam preparation and grade improvement.
3 A Level Literature students, covering a range of texts in-depth, and improving essay technique.
2 IB students.

Sociology -
12 A Level students, focusing on content comprehension and analysis, as well as essay technique and exam practice.

University Admissions -
30 students, covering mock interviews, personal statements, entrance exams, humanities knowledge building.

EPQ Support -
10 students, supervising their humanities-oriented projects.

IB MYP -
1 student, supporting and encouraging his learning through to the IB.

Japanese -
2 adult leaners, one for a job interview which he passed, and one for study abroad, which he is now undertaking.
2 KS3 students, long-term tuition moving into GCSE and A Levels.

History -
2 GCSE students, covering several periods of history and improving content retention, as well as exam technique.
1 A Level student, extensively covering content, both modern and medieval, as well as focused essay improvement.

Maths -
4 KS3 students, focusing on algebra and confidence building.
3 GCSE students, focusing on extensive exam preparation and grade improvement, as well as covering gaps.

French -
1 GCSE student, focusing on all areas, speaking, writing, listening, and reading, improving pronunciation and comprehension.

Across all students I have seen significant improvements, not only in grades, but in comprehension and connection with their subject.

Additionally:

Downing Keio Summer School 2017: I received invaluable experience leading groups of 10 and also one-on-one sessions, teaching International Relations.

University: Cambridge is home to the `supervision system`. I often had one-on-one sessions with leading academics and am very familiar with this style of individualised teaching and learning.

My daughter has found Liz very helpful - it’s also great that the lessons are online as we don’t live near to her. Liz is very friendly, easy to talk and explains the subject well.
