Information about Jessica
I am an enthusiastic, creative and positive minded individual with interests in teaching, food, travel and the arts. I currently work as a Youth Worker and am looking into tutoring from home and/or travelling as required to the home of the pupils alongside this.
My vision is to have an after-school homework and dinner club, where i can share my love of food and the importance of healthy eating and nutrition with my pupils.
I offer general learning support to aid any pupil who is struggling with confidence which could be leading to anxiety in a traditional classroom setting, where one to one support is unavailable. I strongly believe that every pupil should have the opportunity to reach their full potential and not be made to feel a failure from the requirements of the national curriculum, as it does not suit the learning needs of every young person.
Volunteering for Nottingham Nightline, a student run listening and information service (similar to the Samaritans) has motivated my interest in mental wellbeing and student support. The thorough training I received, and time on the phone lines, has taught me the importance of confidentiality, trust and respect in sensitive situations and the significance of a supportive team of anonymous volunteers. This role has given me invaluable experience in empathy, acceptance and conscientiousness life skills that are transferable into a role working with young people.
Availability: Availability to be arranged on an individual basis. Usually Friday.
Willing to travel: 5 miles
Experience: My experience includes planning tailored lessons for each individual and setting achievable goals and homework each week. I have tutored pupils with learning difficulties, including ADHD and dyslexia. I find that my pupils thrive from the one on one attention, and I can alter my own techniques and structure of the lessons to suit their needs at any time, choosing particular resources to suit the needs of different pupils and challenge them appropriately, whilst providing an encouraging and supportive environment for learning.
