A small number of just 699 pupils for The International School is significantly less than average in the UK. With only 40.3% girls against 59.7% boys, the school has slightly more males than females. Schools maintain a record of attendance through a series of registration sessions at the beginning and end of the school day. With a 91.8% attendance rate, the attendance is below national average. Having only 39.8 members of staff makes it have a far lower number of staff than most other schools in the area. The International School has a 18:1 teacher/pupil ratio, far exceeding the normal for the country, making for a large number of pupils in each classroom of just one teacher, which may impede lesson progression.

GCSE`s were introduced by the government in the 1980`s to offer a consistent education nationally for pupils aged 14-16.

Post sixteen education entails voluntary progress onto A Levels, where a pupil may choose to specialise in a small range of academic subjects. The school provides an average full time teacher`s salary of £39388 , a high figure for the UK. They have an extremely small number of pupils who speak English as their 1st language, with only 37.1% of them doing so.

Ofsted

About Ofsted

Ofsted have been inspecting schools on a regular basis since 2005. After a cursory warning period they undertake a thorough examination of the whole school. Inspectors will sit in on classes, assessing each teacher's teaching ability. They will also evaluate the way the current curriculum is implemented, and how the progress of each student is tracked throughout their tenure.

Each school is graded on a four point scale: 1 being outstanding, 2 being good, 3 means they require improvement, and 4 signifying inadequate. Those schools attaining an outstanding or good grade might not be re-inspected for as long as five years; while those receiving lower grades will be reassessed with greater frequency, with little or no notice prior to the inspectors arriving.
