Bales College has 75 pupils, which places its total pupil count about average in the UK. Having almost an equal mix of male and female students, they have 38.7% girls and 61.3% boys. Absence by school pupils must be justified by illness or advance consent from the school.

Students are usually encouraged to pursue studying 8-10 subjects at KS4 although school attainment targets are set at 5 GCSE passes at grade A-C.

There is a growing reliance by higher educational institutions upon predicted grades at A Level when offering places to pupils. A low average A Level score of 21.83 for the school puts the school the lowest achieving category.
