Core

The core is the innermost part of the Earth.

Crust

The outer layer of the Earth on top of the mantle.

Crust (continental)

A thick part of the earth`s crust that contains large land masses.

Crust (oceanic)

A relatively thin part of the earth`s crust that contains large ocean basins.

Erosion

Movement of rock by water, ice or wind (transportation).

Global Warming

The rise in the average temperature of the Earth`s surface.

Greenhouse Effect

The retention of heat in the atmosphere caused by the build-up of greenhouse gases.

Igneous Rocks

Formed from cooled magma, with minerals arranged in crystals. Examples are granite, basalt and obsidian.

Mantle

&

A zone of hot rock in the interior of the earth located between the outer crust and the molten core. It has the properties of a solid, although it can also flow, very slowly.

Metamorphic Rocks

Formed from existing rocks exposed to heat and pressure over a long time. Examples are marble, slate and schist.

Minerals

Chemicals that rocks are made from.

Pollutant

A substance that pollutes (damages) either water or the atmosphere.

Rock Cycle
