Information about Patrick
Friendly tutoring by experienced teacher: KS3 and GCSE Maths and Sciences, A level Physics, 11+ entrance exams
About myself
I am a fully qualified teacher with experience of teaching and tutoring maths, biology, chemistry and physics to GCSE level and physics to A-level. Prior to qualifying as a teacher, I worked as a university researcher coaching undergraduates in their final year projects and then as a teaching assistant in a secondary school providing small group and one to one tuition tailored for the needs of individual students. I also have experience in preparing candidates for 11+ school examinations.
My approach to tutoring
I carefully evaluate the learning needs of each individual student, looking at their existing knowledge, strengths and weaknesses to provide a structured approach to the tuition sessions.
I provide a friendly, positive approach to teaching maths and science to build confidence in subjects that some students find daunting. By exploring the underlying meaning behind concepts that may cause difficulties, I aim to improve understanding and help the student gain confidence in their own ability to learn.
For students taking examinations, I ensure a thorough preparation by focusing on exam technique and concentrating on past examination questions and analysis of mark schemes to allow students to achieve the best results that they are capable of.
For students preparing for 11+ examinations I focus on building confidence in key skills needed for success, using a variety of strategies and activities tailored for the particular exams that the student will be taking.
Availability: Weekdays 10am-9pm
Saturday 11am-2pm
I offer an initial free one hour consultation to introduce myself, establish the learning needs of the student and plan a structured approach for further tuition. At the end of the session a deposit equivalent to one hours tuition secures the tuition place.
I require 24 hours notification of a cancelled session, short notice cancellations can result in a forfeited deposit.
Sessions can be paid for weekly, or monthly in advance, by cash, cheque or BACS.
