I am 33 years old and have been teaching A Level and GCSE English, History and Maths at sixth form college for 8 years, in which time my results have far surpassed national pass rates. Moreover, due to these outstanding pass rates and innovative teaching methods, I have been promoted to Assistant Head of Department helping us to be awarded a grade 1 "Outstanding for the past 4 years. I have a passion for English, maths and history, and take great pride in providing an excellent education to all of my students, seeing it as crucial to success in their later careers.
Besides enjoying superb results, my pupils benefit from a relaxed yet challenging atmosphere, with high commitment being expected of them and this has shown to bring both personal and academic growth, which is always pleasing to see. While I do see it as important to have a good working relationship with my students, their overall success remains paramount.
Availability: I am currently available weekday evenings and Saturday/Sunday all day.
Willing to travel: 3 miles
Experience: I have a broad range of experience turning around failing classes, as well as challenging high achieving students. In my teaching career thus far I have taught a wide age range from 8-18 years, and specialise in teaching troubled students and those lacking confidence, as well as pushing very bright pupils. Since I began teaching at my institution, English pass-rates have received a 25% upwards leap in two years and Mathematics high grades have increased by 17%, so that the vast majority of my classes are now passing with excellent academic grades and attaining entry to prestigious preparatory schools and/or universities. With these excellent results I have now been made an advanced teaching practitioner, tasked with passing on my skills to other teachers and helping drive up standards.
Moreover, due to this long history of being a stand-out professional in the education sector, my advice has been sought out for occasional media and radio appearances for discussions on educational policy, whilst also being head-hunted to tutor the children of prominent sports men/women, members of the business world, and have even been lucky enough to tutor a Nobel Prize winner (which was awesome!) :)
Throughout my teaching career in inner-city Birmingham, I have become known for inspiring all learners, whilst using creative methods in covering the curriculum in an accessible and enjoyable way. Education should be a joy, not a chore, and I always do my best to ensure this.

My son has been going to Jon for around a month. He really enjoys the hour he spends working with Jon, already he feels more confident and knowledgeable with maths.
Absolutely fabulous. Boys look forward to his lessons.
Early days yet, but my son has taken to it well and is happy to go to Jon for tutoring. A good start.
Jon was very helpful in fitting my son in when we needed to change his normal lesson. My son enjoyed and looked forward to going which says a lot and gained confidence in his English. Thank you again Jon.
Jon is a very good tutor - he is approachable and very knowledgable and has a great rapport with his pupils.
Early days but so far very pleased .
We`re very impressed with Jon`s approach to teaching. It is clear that our son feels relaxed and fully engaged, and after a few sessions we have already seen the benefit.
Thanks Jon :)
Very impressed, very student focused, would recommend to any student needing support.
Brilliant service, really friendly and not a single minute wasted! Really eager to help me (despite my quick turnover) and fully annotate the coursework material in preparation for the session, where it was explained in more depth. An immense effort was made before receiving a single penny and frequent revisits over E-mail were generously offered. An ideal working environment was also provided. Would recommend to any English students (especially A-level Literature) without a doubt. Just wish I discovered them sooner! Keep up the excellent work with all future clients. :)
