Hi - I`m Alison, a BSc, MSc, PhD qualified Maths, Science Tutor with over 20 years experience.

Tutoring Approach: Friendly, approachable and patient with an adaptable/ flexible tutoring style catering for individual student needs. Every student is different and so there is non `one size fits all` - in our initial lesson(s) I will assess current knowledge levels and determine what`s needed and, going forward, what will work best for the student. I help students build confidence and subject knowledge as well as providing advice and guidance on revision and exam techniques and useful resources available. And, for those doing key exams, past paper question practice, is super important. Key to gaining the best grades is knowing how to interpret questions, spot key words and phrases and read the whole question and consider mark allocation ... as well as being able to interpret mark schemes!

Many past/current students would provide a personal recommendation and report that their confidence and grades have improved as a result of my tuitions. Indeed, many past clients have re-used my services for younger siblings, which speaks volumes.

Entrance test, 11+ preparation. English, Maths, Verbal reasoning.
Grammar or private school entry

Maths - primary maths tuition (yr 4 - yr 6), including eleven plus (11+), entrance test maths preparation, secondary maths, GCSE, iGCSE maths, Level 2 Further Maths (AQA), Level 3 OCR FSMQ, additional maths and A level maths (year 1 (12) only at present).

Science - GCSE & iGCSE science, combined science

Biology - KS3, GCSE, iGCSE, A level

Chemistry- Key Stage 3 (KS3), GCSE, iGCSE, A level

Physics - KS3 SATs, GCSE, iGCSE

Availability: I tutor all days, including weekends and am also available daytime for those needing homeschooling. Prime, after school, slots between 3.30 and 7pm on weekdays, tend to fill up quickly but please ask about current availability.

Close to exam seasons my availability becomes very limited - daytimes are more flexible, weekends may have one or two possible spaces.

Cancellation/last minute slots are available on a fcfs basis

Experience: Over 20 yrs experience as a private, personal tutor, at least 10 years as a full time professional tutor.

In addition to tutoring I have previous experience of teaching and lecturing at both college and university and also of providing training courses for teachers and teaching assistants. My background in academia gave me experience of research (and lecturing) in the biomedical field. During this time I undertook research and associated teaching at the Universities of Cardiff, Oxford and Manchester - I ended my University career as a senior research fellow come teaching fellow to focus on tutoring
