Information about Laura
After 7 years working at a tuition centre, I now work as a private tutor alongside my other work. I work for a wonderful children`s charity, called Spread a Smile, as a singer and session manager. I work as part of a team providing entertainment to seriously ill children throughout 8 major London hospitals, including Great Ormond Street. I also work a ride and strength and conditioning instructor at Digme Fitness, a leading boutique fitness studio in London and Oxford. I am a passionate, driven and energetic individual and love the variation and flexibility each job gives me.
I teach Maths, English from the ages of 4 to 14 and 11+.
Outside of working hours I spend my time playing the piano and singing, practising calligraphy and doing yoga. I also love the outdoors, whether it be daily walks with my labradoodle, called Guppy, or a long weekend camping.
Availability: I am currently only available for online session via zoom.
I am available Monday to Friday, both during the school hours, after school and during the evening and can offer good flexibility week to week.
I do offer sessions on the weekend and currently offer sessions throughout the morning, please note weekend availability is currently limited.
Willing to travel: 5 miles
Experience: I have over 8 years of tutoring experience, teaching children of all abilities from the ages of 4-16 in Maths and English, as well as 11+ preparation. I began tutoring Maths and English at a tuition centre at the age of 17 during my A-Levels, during this time I also ran a weekly creative writing workshop aimed at children 7-10 which had over 20 children regularly attending. I continued tutoring throughout my degree in Musical Theatre and upon graduating I have spent a year teaching and mentoring children during their preparation for the 11+. Out of the six children I teach four children are consitently achieving above the pass mark (80%) in mock tests.
I regularly attend training sessions in the National Curriculum, SEN, 11+ Entrance Exams and teaching methods and approaches. I spend time self- studying to ensure that I am update with all content of the National Curriculum and 11+. I am also DBS Checked.
Every children is different for a wonderful reason and therefore I believe that it is really important that I adapt my approach based on each child as an individual, taking in to consideration their strengths and weaknesses and their preferred learning style. I want children to feel relaxed and confident to make mistakes when working with me. As well as giving regular feedback about the child`s progress, I will ask the child for their feedback on our sessions, in order to improve the quality and enjoyment of their sessions. As well as striving to ensure that the child fully understands the concepts they have been taught, I will also help them to develop the ability and confidence to apply themselves in the classroom and in exams.
My main aim is to help my students develop their self-confidence and learn skills that they can apply outside of our sessions. So much of teaching is outcome based, whether that be passing an exam or overcoming a particular learning hurdle, but I focus on the process of teaching and developing my student`s skills and confidence in order to help them become stronger learners.
