Information about Jessica

Hi, my name is Jess and I live in Swansea. A bit about myself, I like to try new things - even if I`m awful at them - because I enjoy new experiences. I enjoy skating - on and off the ice - and I love to bake (I also love eating cake, so that works to my advantage). I am currently doing a positive psychology PhD and I am an advocate for being mindful of our health and wellbeing, even if you deem yourself to be fit and healthy already. I take a holistic approach to health and wellbeing, understanding the importance of health behaviours (such as diet, sleep and physical activity), social ties with friends and family, and the importance of spending time in nature. I believe that this approach to life, combined with the enjoyment I have when helping people, would make me a good tutor for anyone learning psychology.

Availability: I am very flexible and can work around your schedule.

Willing to travel: Home Only

Experience: I completed my undergraduate degree in Psychology in 2016, for which I received a First Class honours and 95% in my dissertation. I am currently in my final year of completing a Psychology PhD in Swansea. I have been involved in mentoring undergraduate and master students in their projects by setting up research studies for both questionnaire and heart rate variability research, along with providing feedback on their writing. I have assisted in teaching and marking on the second year Research and Experimental Methods module from which I have gained a good understanding of what is expected at undergraduate level by the examining board. I am also involved in the design of a third year positive psychology module.

Overall, I am able to help develop your skills and knowledge that you will need in the area of psychology - by this I mean the ability to think critically about the research you are using in your coursework and the best way to revise for an exam (i.e. you can`t remember every study in existence, so how do you pick which ones are the most important to remember? How can you best show the examiner that you know your stuff?).
In addition to this, I can also work with you to overcome knowledge barriers in more specific areas, for example, it may be a specific theory you`re struggling to get to grips with.
