Information about Siobhan

***CORONAVIRUS PRECAUTIONS***:

***I will NOT accept any face to face tuitions any more. Any parents of students finding themselves in isolation as a precaution or because they have been sent home from school or college due to an illness that has similarities to coronavirus can book NOW for booster lessons/ extra lessons/ back up lessons, and new clients are welcome to request hours. I am quite full already so first come first served, though if enough need my help I will arrange online GROUP lessons based on age and ability at much lower rates than shown on here to tide us over at this worrying time. I have had to refuse people messaging me and insisting lessons be face to face, it`s incredibly irresponsible at best to insist anyone risk their lives in order to provide lessons. ***

ONLINE LESSONS VIA SKYPE ONLY.

I do not travel out. I am happy to and do take pupils from all over the UK and worldwide online.

Fully insured, first aid qualified and enhanced CRB checked private tutor, also a qualified counsellor.

I cover most subjects from Year 1 to A Level and specialise in 11 plus, Functional Skills for adults, and up to GSCE tuition. This is for schools and syllabuses all over the UK and further afield. A levels too, in some subjects as I write academically English and History courses among other things!

******************************************************************

Most schools do CEM exams for the 11+ but not all. I cover all types of 11+ exams. If you have ANY questions about the CEM format, message me!

In the CEM there four skills to cover (see below) anyone wanting tuition these 11+ exams will need to commit to TWO HOURS MINIMUM per week if pupils start lessons for it in Year 5 as there are now four subjects to cover, almost none of which is covered in schools till well after the 11+ and sometimes not even by the end of Year 6.

The CEM is FOUR possible topics:
Maths to a level 5A (in old money as it were)including algebra, area of circles, volume of complex shapes, complex fractions, decimals, percents, ratios and averages that are typical of the old level 6 booster tests done in SATs at the end of Year 6.
English multiple choice comprehension to level 5A/6 standard of vocabulary knowledge and often involving pre 20th century texts such as Dickens.
Verbal Reasoning (40 possible types)
Non Verbal Reasoning (up to 30 possible types)

There will always be some of EACH of the four topics on the exam.

The CEM providers (Durham University) do NOT release past papers only sample papers so all possible topics have to be covered as schools will not be informing parents which styles of papers they will use (there are four possible slants/exam paper types covering part of the topics above, of which they will use two.)

******************************************************************

Armed Forces and Nursing entrance exams are also a specialism of mine. 100% pass rating in this area.

Key Stages 1-3 I cover English, Maths, Science, History, Geography, French, Spanish

GCSE and A/S Levels: English, Chemistry, History, Geography, Psychology, French, Spanish, Classical Civilisations, all to Higher Level and Maths (Foundation),

A levels: English, French, Spanish, History, Classical Civilisations.

I offer Elocution and Voice (singing) (I am LAMDA trained) and Calligraphy too.

I do 1-2-1 online only so you will need Skype and a working email contact :) and I offer a tailored programme of lessons tailored to fit the pupil. a printer is not always necessary, and I provide a PDF reader option as well. My approach is friendly but no-nonsense and a little unconventional, and I am very well acquainted with all the syllabuses.

I also have a lot of experience teaching (especially English and Elocution-speaking correctly- but also all in most other subjects) for pupils (child and adult) for whom English is not their first language.

Thanks for reading and I look forward to hearing from you!

Availability: General Availability (last edited 17/04/21):

Term time: weekdays 4-9pm in school term time. Available day time Tuesday-Thursday (before 4pm weekdays) for adult learners or for home/independently schooled children too.

School holidays: Tuesday to Thursday 1-9pm only.

I do not take lessons at weekends or outside of the times listed above, except when the time zone outside the UK necessitates.

FROM NOW (April 2021) I HAVE:

Tuesdays: 4-5pm

Wednesdays: 7:30-8:30pm

Thursdays: 4-5pm, 5:30- 6:30 pm, 7-8pm and 8:30- 9:30pm.

IF YOU can`t take any of the available times and WISH TO BE PUT ON THE WAITING LIST, PLEASE MESSAGE ME!

Please note:

That slots usually fill up fast so I try and update this page every 48 hours when new availability comes up, if it`s not been updated for a while it means I have no new slots.

Because of the high demand I can only hold a provisional slot given in inbox for a maximum of 48 hours from first contact-sometimes less if I get a lot of queries that want to start from their first contact. Same goes for anyone who has the free trial then doesn`t get back to me.

That first contact for ONLINE LESSONS needs to include (if you can)
subjects needed,
times you have available and
exam board where applicable.
I want to be fair to everyone who enquires, but I keep getting some as yet unconfirmed clients asking for some of these times, so I arrange it, then they don`t get back to me. However I do give priority to those who come to me via recommendation and to those who contact me first/need lessons urgently!

Willing to travel: Home Only

Experience: Tutor since 1991 with a 95% pass rate across all the subjects (97% at 11+) and over 900 pupils across the wide range of subjects shown above. I have worked in the Youth Service, a primary and a secondary school all in deprived areas and am aware of all the issues that can affect learning that are not just academic. I am also a qualified child and LGBT counsellor, with a Dip. Pysth. qualification; ex youth worker and an Associated Member of the Dyslexia Guild.

My `day` job: For over ten years now I have been writing top quality online exam/revision/course guides and I formulate entire courses (including exams and text books) for well established UK, Europe and US based school/college syndicates but across all exam boards for:
*from KS1-3 (6 to 14 year olds) in Key/Functional Skills, as well as adult learners.

*from Level 1- GCSE in Literacy and Numeracy for adult learners.
I oversee and run the Functional Skills Literacy and Numeracy courses up to Level 3 course for all of England and I am Administrational Lead for the North West region- so not only did I write the course material, I also created the official text books for the Edexcel and OCR examination boards in Literacy and Numeracy.

*for Geography, Chemistry, Maths and Psychology exams at GCSE.

*and English, French, Spanish, Classics and History exams for GCSE- A2 level.

I am in the process of compiling a Doctorate (PhD) in Education based on the methods I have developed over the past 20+ years at The University of Liverpool.
