Information about Mike
I`m a retired church leader and teacher, based close to the centre of Gloucester. I taught Religious Studies for ten years, years 7-13: including major world faiths, GCSE Philosophy and Ethics, and A level Biblical Studies, Philosophy of Religion, Contemporary Religion and Buddhism. When I trained to teach, my second subject was Maths. I am a published author.
I`m also a widely experienced supply teacher, having served more than 20 local schools, and covering just about every subject there is. I`ve worked on a one-to-one basis with remedial KS3 students in English and Maths., and tutored both in 11+ preparation and as support for local authority care. Many years ago, I took the 11+ - and my results were deemed worthy of a full scholarship to a major public school.
I`ve been an Examiner / Senior Examiner for fifteen years at GCSE level, which has given me considerable insight into examination technique. I`m an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Educational Assessors. As a teacher, a father and a grandfather, I greatly enjoy working with young people - and helping them to achieve their very best!
Availability: I`m available most times Monday to Saturday (by arrangement).
Willing to travel: 15 miles
Experience: I`m a qualified teacher with DBS, DBS update link, and ongoing training to keep me sharp (most recently in Child and Vulnerable Adult Protection, Child Mental Health, and COVID awareness).
DBS (CRB) Check: Yes

Feedback For Mike (2)
Rich (Mr)

Mike has been tutoring our son for the 11+ test. Weve found him to be highly professional and is clearly a very experienced teacher. He has looked at our sons education in the round and has tailored the sessions to engage and support our son. He has used a wide range of his own resources to support the tutoring. Mike is very personable and enthusiastic, and quickly he has built a great rapport with our son, making his sessions enjoyable and keeping our sons attention! He has provided us useful feedback for us to better support our son, and positive reinforcement along with progressive learning points to him. Following lockdown this has been invaluable. In our experience of tutoring, our son is certainly responding the most positively with Mike. Highly recommended!

Mike is very patient and built a good rapport with our pupil. He taught both maths and English, his resources were bespoke and relevant to the needs of the individual.
