Information about Jasmine

My name is Jasmine and I am a strong believer in life long learning. It is important for the path of developing yourself and allows you to reach your dreams.

Having over 2500 hours of teaching, my experience has allowed my students to smash their entrance exams and scholarship exams. Regarding academic achievement, my students have seen increases of 2-3 grade boundaries on average, whereby 4 boundaries up is not unusual.
A typical scenario is that a child begins with a start from 50/60% and increases to 85-95% in test papers. This is dependent on work ethic, how much the teaching is taken on board, and the willingness to put in the work. I teach from year 3 to university level.

I offer an initial reduced rate so that you can see the results for yourself and are reaping the actual investment you put in. It is often better to invest the bit extra into an experienced tutor who understands intimately the nuances of teaching and who has guaranteed results.

My 11+ students have entered schools such as King`s College Wimbledon, St. Paul`s, Tonbridge, Westminster, Dulwich College, including a wide range of top independent and grammar schools.

I am from London and originally from Vietnam. I attended James Allen`s Girls` School in East Dulwich, studied Art, History of Art, Geography, Maths and Critical Thinking at A-Level (A*, A, A, B, B).

I was accepted into Trinity College, the most prestigious college at Cambridge University, where there is only 1 space for Architecture students. Thereafter, I went on to study Architecture at The University of Nottingham.

I was 1 of 10 adults worldwide to be awarded the Engage scholarship from The Search Inside Yourself Leadership Institute, born at Google, for Emotional Intelligence, Mindfulness, and Neuroscience and tear training scholarship. I am their youngest certified SIY tear trained to teach an 8-week course for mindfulness and their flagship program: Search Inside Yourself. I combine my knowledge regarding well-being into my style of tutoring.

I have always had to rely on myself to achieve the grades that I want, to understand each subject and learning styles of students. I understand the challenges that come with learning, the stress, the ins and outs of each subject, and all the short cuts in between. Lessons are adapted to effectively deliver what exam boards want, whilst taking care of the student mentally - this is from teaching experience, being in close relations with chief exam board examiners, and thanks to phenomenal tears that I have had in the past.

I believe it is important to connect with a student, understand them, empathise and teach emotional resilience - key in achieving desired grades. My knowledge in mindfulness is an advantage, as I have learned tools that have been proven scientifically to increase focus, productivity, deeper awareness, calm and reduced stress. Students reach flow states, where they find it enjoyable to be challenged and are the most conducive to learning deeply, as well as becoming more internally motivated. Many of the parents who initially opt for a subject often opt for mindfulness sessions on top, as they see their child improves drastically in focus, calm, and energy management due to this.

My approach is rigorous and supportive. Depending on how lenient you want my tutoring style to be, it is up to you! I am keen on getting the results that you want.

Other information:

Location of lessons:
My premises/online.

Lesson Structure:
Primary - Secondary Level:
Firstly, I begin by understanding the skill-level of the student, working through papers with them, so that it is possible to see where their weaknesses are. Iteratively working through and subsequently targeting areas that need reinforcement. This process continues, building a stable foundation of knowledge and increasing overall marks. Educational material recommended will need to be provided by the student`s parents.

Design Subjects:
Dependent on your requirement of what helps your projects require, we will speak further about the finer details privately.

Technical Program Subjects (Adobe Suite - Indesign, Photoshop, etc):
Dependent on your current skill level, lessons will be planned specifically for your needs, with a lesson plan and take-away sheets.

Lesson times:
The time begins from when I arrive, so I encourage the student(s) to be promptly ready for the lesson and be well fed.

Lesson preparation:
Primary and secondary students: Being prepared with the correct stationery, a notebook to work in, and for English, on top of this a book to add new vocabulary too. Workbooks and tests from school are all helpful for my viewing.

Design: Correct programs installed on your devices, sketchbooks, portfolio, project work, skets, swatch boards all at hand for viewing. Anything else that may be of importance for me to view.

If I arrive early and the student is not ready, then the lesson time will start from the said time of the lesson.
Lessons will end promptly at the end of time. In regards to feedback from the lesson, please see below.

Feedback and Consultation:
Feedback and notes of the lesson will be written for your viewing, given after each session, digitally on Google drive. This will inform you of your child`s progress like how schools give feedback in the same format (not for university-level design subjects). As I have lessons often back to back, it is important for me to leave promptly.

Unless, if desired, it is possible to book a consultation where we can talk on the phone or in-person about the progress of the children. This service will be charged at the hourly rate. Please book.
Other Learning materials:
Homework shall be given after each session and if requested for holidays.

In the event that I go away on holiday, I will let you know ahead of time and expect the same from yourself. Please cancel lessons at least 3 weeks in advance so that someone else on the waiting list for your slot may get a lesson for the week that you are absent.

Terms and Conditions:

Cancellation fees:
Less than 10days notice - 100% of the lesson
11-15days notice - 75%
16-21 days notice - 50%
22-28 days notice - 25%

Availability: I have a flexible sdule, that I can work out with you personally to suit your needs.

Willing to travel: Home Only

Experience: I have 2500 hours of teaching. This includes teaching for 4 years formally for English, Maths, 11+, Art, History of Art, French, Geography, Interior design, Sciences, Design Technology, Architecture and Design Programs (Autocad, Adobe Suite - Indesign, Photoshop).

I have also taught belly dancing at university level, acroyoga, meditation, acapella singing and mindfulness for 3 years.

In Vietnam, I have taught for 2 years English as a foreign language to students from 11-18 years old.

99% of students have gone on to get into the schools that they wanted, land the jobs and do their best work. The remaining 1% had continued to have lessons, with the fore-warning that I believed their child would not be likely to get the school they wanted, and as predicted, did not in the end.

It is common for someone who is at a B grade to go up to an A* with my tuition. My students have started from 50/60% and have increased to 85-95% in test papers. For older years, going up 2 grade boundaries is usual and 3-4 is not unusual. This is dependent on work ethic, and the willingness to put in the work.

I emotionally invest a lot in my students and give extensive guidance thus receiving value that would be unparalleled even in a private school environment, providing great value rate so that you are reaping the actual investment you put in. It is often better to invest the bit extra into an experienced tutor who knows the examination procedures and who has track record results.
