Information about Michaela
You can do anything as long as you have the passion, the drive, the focus, and the support.
Person-centred teaching that is tailored to the individual student is my approach. Giving structure and positive reinforcement throughout this process facilitates learning and enables students to feel they are an equal contributor to the learning experience.
I have always loved learning and the pursuit of knowledge is a gift that I have been privileged to pass on to my students. Whatever the subject, at the core is a passion for learning itself. I have taught in a variety of areas and fields but have always found that students will learn if they are provided with the right environment. The environment can be a simple as a teacher that is willing to invest their time and belief in a student. If one method of teaching a subject does not work, then discuss with your student to find a way that is better for them. Engaging a student with their subject is key to success and setting achievable goals promotes ownership of their learning.

Experience: I tutor Psychology and Criminology: GCSE, A-level and all levels of Undergraduate. My preferred area of Psychology is Forensic Psychology with a Masters in Forensic Psychology and Criminology and experience of teaching within a prison environment, but I am able to work through any topics required. I`m happy to help with the planning stages, discuss ideas, and proof-read work for report writing and essays, and provide constructive feedback. I also specialise in exam revision at GCSE and A Level, alongside teaching topics within the curriculum.
My aim in tutoring Psychology is to equip my students with the ability to critically answer any given question with the knowledge they have. Critical analysis and great essay structure, especially at degree level, are what sets the top students apart, and as such getting these foundations right, allows a student to progress significantly.
I also tutor English, Maths and all three Sciences at GCSE level, predominantly Secondary but also at Primary. Similarly, the onus is on focusing on the areas to study; which will be determined at the initial lesson with an informal assessment and through discussion with the student and parent, if this applies. My lessons are student-led and constant reviews will take place, and feedback given to promote learning and to provide evidence of areas for improvement. I also help students with additional needs, such as dyslexia, ADHD and Autism as I have extensive experience of working within SEN. Helping them to put their ideas onto paper and understand key concepts, is something that I consider to be a source of great joy as a tutor.
I provide my own resources but will work alongside the set curriculum and homework can be provided if desired. I have created schemes of work for many of the subjects I have taught and use various forms of media to enable students to access the material. With revision, I have found that a collaborative approach works best and a timetable can be set that meets the academic needs of the student but also takes into consideration work set by schools, for example. I believe that it is my aim to work alongside the school or University/College and have found that by liaising with parents and, at times, school departments, this can be to the benefit of any student. I am currently working with several schools who have pupils that are home-schooling and have found that by keeping these channels open, it best serves the pupil in the run-up to exams.

Miss Michaela had proofread my assessments for masters degree and had guided me a lot in expanding my perspective and ideas. Easy to talk to and definitely helped me in being critical and improving my academic writing skills. Miss Michaela shared some of her experiences in her forensic psychology field which not only prepare me for the future, but also provide me shortcut in dealing with situations in the future. Real life lessons are as important as academic lessons, as such, i highly recommend Miss Michaela. Thank you for your tutoring.

After one year of doing A level Psychology and a level 3 diploma in Criminology my daughter was underperforming and predicted to get grade Cs. At the time she was also seeking a diagnosis for ADHD and was therefore struggling to concentrate and focus in her college lessons. I thought a personal tutor would be able to help and was very fortunate to read Michaelas profile and contact her. Michaela was very patient with my erratic daughter and managed to coax her through the exams. She ended up with an A* in Psychology and A in Criminology. When I asked my daughter if she had let Michaela know her results she said of course as Michaela was vital to her success.

Michaela stepped in to help our daughter with the last few months of her psychology and criminology degree. She was supportive , helped her structure work, developed her essay writing skills and improved her grades . She was flexible, knowledgeable and really understanding. This really helped her get back on track after at a turbulent , mainly lockdown based , negative degree experience. Thank you for all your help Michaela. 😊;
