Information about Helen
I am a dedicated and enthusiastic tutor with a PGCE in Secondary Geography and a PhD in Archaeology/Human Geography (Universities of Roehampton and Southampton, respectively).
My 15-year experience working with primary, secondary and tertiary students has been the most rewarding and fulfilling of my life! I am always searching for engaging and alternative ways to teach them and to further help them achieve their goals.
My studies also include a BA in Archaeology (University of Southampton), and an MA in Mediterranean Archaeology (University of Bristol).
As of May 2023, I successfully completed an NPQ (National Professional Qualification) in Leading Teaching with the Institute of Education (UCL).

Experience: I am currently teaching secondary Geography in London and I have previously worked as a Teaching Assistant at tertiary level (Archaeological Theory at the University of Southampton) as well as a Shadow Teacher (American Community Schools of Athens) and a Learning Support Assistant (Southampton College- focus on English and Maths) for SEN students at primary and secondary level.
I am experienced in both AQA and Edexcel GCSE Exam boards as well as AQA at A-Level. I have further been supporting students through private lessons for 13 years in KS3 History, RE, Social Studies, 11+ English, Maths, and Verbal/Non-Verbal Reasoning, as well as English Language and Literature (A-Level), Humanities and Environmental Studies (IB). My experience also includes Oxbridge/Russell Group university interview preparation as well as Personal Statement support (humanities focus).
As a participant of the Researchers in Schools programme (The Brilliant Club) I had the opportunity of delivering a university-style course based on my doctoral thesis for KS4 students, enabling them to consider their university pathways and helping them gain a better understanding of academic (and social!) life at tertiary level. I was also a Brilliant Club Tutor through the Scholars Programme, delivering university-style courses on Politics and Geography to KS3 and KS4 students.
Through my support, my students have been successful in reaching their fullest potential and achieving good and excellent grades (as well as entering their secondary school/university of choice!)
