Information about Rajan

After graduating from the University of Kent with a 2:1 in Accounting and Management; I became an Assistant Accountant. However, I felt deeply dissatisfied with the prospect of working purely for the reason of earning a high income, as I felt that I was not benefitting society in a meaningful way. I then decided to pursue an alternative career path, as a Police Constable on the Emergency Response Team. Since then, I have felt a positive change in my life, knowing that my day is better spent serving the community who need help. In my role, I meet teenage boys and girls who are subject to unfortunate social and economic circumstances, which have tempted them into criminal activities.

Watching helplessly as these children followed a destructive path, inspired me to guide younger generations to become good, responsible citizens, allowing them to lead fulfilling lives and be of value to society. Unfortunately, I have realised that these young offenders are unwilling to accept help from the police due to a lack of trust. I feel that the extent to which I can support these young people turn their lives around, in my current position, is limited. Hence, to gain the trust of the youth, I would require a change in career.

In my experience as a student, communicating with teachers on a daily basis helped to build a good rapport and level of trust. This encouraged students to confide in their teachers about personal issues that had a negative impact on their education.

Therefore, I believe that as a secondary school teacher, I will be able to share my knowledge, providing the students with skills to pave the way to financial freedom. Moreover, I will be able to advise them about ethical issues relating to both a professional environment and personal life. I aspire to encourage those without suitable role models in their lives to make sensible choices and be successful in the future, in the hope that this will lead to happiness, safety and contentment.

I believe that I possess the qualities of a good teacher. Not only am I a patient, understanding and caring individual, but I also possess a strong moral compass. Over the past eight years, I have acted as a mentor to younger students in my martial arts classes, often supporting them in times of difficulty and raising their concerns to their parents at times when the children felt they could not do so themselves.

Finally, I feel that by dedicating myself to a learning environment, I can explore the subject of Mathematics in depth; developing my own knowledge in this field alongside my students.
