Information about Christopher
My name is Chris and I am a highly experienced tutor of Maths, English and 11+ entrance tuitions for selective schools.
I teach Maths at Key Stage 1, Key Stage 2 ,Key Stage 3 and GCSE level.
I also teach English at Key Stage 1. Key Stage 2 Key Stage 3 and GCSE level (English Language only). I am fully up to date with the new 9-1 National Curriculum in both Maths & English, having prepared students in both subjects for 9-1 exams in June 2017.
In Maths, I am fully up to date with the new topics in the new 9-1 GCSE Maths syllabus, such as Sets, Iteration, Velocity/ Time Graphs, finding the nth term of a quadratic sequence, quadratic inequalities, finding the equation to a tangent to a circle, finding inverse and composite functions, and many more...
In 11+ tuition, I have taught around 50 students over the years, and I have a 90% success rate at getting students into Grammar and Private Schools (this is 9 times higher than the average of 10% of students who sit an 11+ exam, and then get into their selective school). I am experienced at teaching all types of 11+ preparation, including CEM and standard versions.
In addition to this, I am experienced at preparing Adult students for the Qts Numeracy & Literacy Tests and i have a 100% success rate with this (5 out of 5 in Numeracy have passed, and 2 out of 2 in Literacy). I am also experienced preparing students for other Numeracy & Literacy Tests.
I live in Calne, Wiltshire.
I have been tutoring for 20 years, and have 51 written references from parents and I also have a Maths degree.
I also have a proven track record of success. For example, I improved 2 students in GCSE Maths recently from F grades to C grades in 9 months. Also, I improved another student in GCSE Maths recently from a C grade to an A grade in 7 months!
Meanwhile, at Primary level, I improved one student from a level 3a in Maths, and a 4c in English (i.e. only just above average), to a level 5a in Maths & English in her Year 6 Sats. She was top of all her year group for Maths & English- so she had improved 2 levels in 18 months. At KS3 level, I have had great success too- one student improved from a level 6 to a level 8 in 2 months` tuition in Maths!
Over the 16 years that I have been a tutor, I have worked with students of all levels & abilities from those with Learning Disabilities to the Gifted & Talented. Within the Learning Disabilities` spectrum, I have taught students with all types of Learning Disability, including those with Dylslexia , Dyspraxia , ADHD, ADD, Dyscalculia, Asperges and Short-term Memory Retention.

Feedback For Christopher (26)
Chris tutored my son from March 2022 until June 2022 for GCSE Maths which he completed in June 2022. My son was predicted a grade 5 and achieved a grade 7, we were concerned he wouldn`t achieve the grade 5 hence getting a tutor. We have been delighted with how Chris has helped my son achieve more than he thought possible. Chris`s clear explanations of the mathematical concepts helped my son gain a deeper understanding. His confidence developed allowing him to translate his knowledge to the exam questions. The tutoring took place mainly on zoom and occasionally on WhatsApp. Chris was easy to work with and went out of his way to fit George into a timeslot that worked for George, especially around holiday times. To conclude, i would thoroughly recommend Chris as a Maths Tutor.
Chris tutored my daughter Scarlet prior to her GCSE maths exam and currently tutors my son Joe, who is in year 10 and just commencing his GCSEs. The tutoring started originally for Scarlet 3 years and 4 months ago, because she had been put down two sets (to the second to bottom set) since going to secondary school and was losing confidence. With Chris`s help and within a year she was put back up two sets (to set 3) which enabled her to do the higher tier maths for GCSE and not foundation. She went on to achieve a level 6 pass in her maths exams/assessment in June 2021. Joe struggles with retention and therefore the tution has really helped him to keep the different mathematical topics live and to understand the topics that he has found difficult at school. Prior to Covid, both my children went to him for tuition at his house but since then, the tuition has been online and this has not hindered the quality of the teaching. Chris is always reliable, friendly and approachable and now Joe lets him know if there are topics he wants to look at specifically. Chris is always flexible and able to adapt to his particular needs. He has a very indepth understanding of Maths combined with the ability to put over a complex topic in an understandable way. I would have no hesitation in recommending Chris as a maths tutor.
Chris has been tutoring my daughter for many years now. Since she was in year 5 and now she`s just starting year 9. She`s improved a lot and the consistency of the lessons have allowed her to maintain her grades in Maths. We are really grateful to have Chris tutoring Nina.
Excellent tutor good communication and good feedback
Chris is a fantastic tutor who is very patient, and has a great way of explaining methods in a clear and understandable way. I would definitely recommend him to anyone in need of a maths tutor. He helped my Daughter go from a Level 3 in her Mocks to a high 4 in her GCSEs. Dont know what wed of done without him.
Christopher helped our son over an eight month period on the run up to GSCE exams. Without his help, our son would not have passed the exams. Tahn you Christopher!
My son has worked with Christopher for two weeks now and is very happy. Christopher is a very capable and organised tutor and I believe he will be able to help my son through his GCSE maths.
Excellent service all round. Chris is very patient and Izzie benefitted greatly from the 5 sessions pre-exam!
Christopher was amazing with my daughter. She moved from not knowing what was hopping in class to being confident, sure about Maths and ended up achieving an A*. Christopher was calm in guiding her and gave her so much confidence. I cannot praise him eough.
A dedicated and thorough tutor. Kind but persistent! Fingers crossed itll pay off on the day! Thank you.
I can`t recommend Chris enough! My son was predicted a 3 for his GCSE maths and with Chris`s patience and commitment he achieved a passing 4. My son came away from each of his lessons with a new found confidence, which finally paid off, thanks to Chris`s much supported help.
Christopher has been tutoring my daughter for only a month now and I can already see the confidence and improvement in her. Christopher is very approachable, and very encouraging towards my daughter. Can highly recommend.
He is doing really good so far , timing is also favouring us so far .Many thanks ! Updated 11.12.2017: I approached Christopher for my daughters 11 plus examination. She has passed her examination and she has been offered a place in 2 grammar schools in Gloucester. Christopher has helped me with English and non-verbal reasoning. Very punctual and great timing, I would recommend.
My daughter was tutored by Christopher between June and September 2016 for the 11+ examination to gain a place at Stroud High School. Christopher focussed on the maths and non-verbal reasoning elements of the exam at my request. My daughter was successful in gaining a place at Stroud School for September 2017. Christopher was a very effective tutor and succeeded in developing my daughter`s confidence with clear instruction and practice using a wide range of material. Christopher`s knowledge and ability to transfer that knowledge was very impressive and I would be very happy to recommend him to other parents for 11+ tuition. He is very professional, punctual and well organised and inspired confidence in both myself and my daughter resulting in a successful outcome.
Chris gave me son an excellent level of preparation and confidence ahead of a private school entrance exam.
He was professional to deal with and always punctual and thorough.
Tutors Response :
Thanks Tammy. Toby was a pleasure to teach, and I am really pleased he gained a place at Warminster School.
1. Chris tutored my son Sam for GCSE Maths exams in June 2016. Chris tutored from Year 8 to Year 11 from end of April 2013 to June 2016.
2. Sam was originally predicted a E grade. (well below average in Maths). He has just received his GCSE exam results and got a C grade.
3. Chris specialises in GCSE Maths.
4)Chris has a great teaching ability and was very good at instructing that knowledge to Sam which in turn improved his ability and confidence in GCSE Maths.
5) Chris is very friendly, reliable, punctual and honest.
6)I would recommend Chris for KS3 and GCSE Maths.
At the beginning of my daughters final year she was predicted a D grade in Maths, we decided to get some extra private tuition to give her the confidence to achieve a C grade. We found Chris on tutor hunt. The outcome of 8 months of tuition met our expectations, helped Megan develop new skills and gave her more confidence. Megan was predicted a D grade and told she would have to sit the foundation tier paper. Megan achieved a high C grade in her GCSE exam, and sat the higher tier paper, and was just a few marks away from a B grade. Chris was very knowledgeable in Maths and delivered his tuition well, he definitely supported Megan further in her Maths. Chris was friendly, reliable and flexible if needed.
I would without a doubt recommend Chris as a GCSE Maths tutor to other parents. We were very happy that Megan achieved a C grade and without this tuition from Chris this may not have been possible.
Christopher helped prepare my son for his GCSE Maths. They did lots of past papers and were able to identify any areas that needed additional work. My son achieved an A+, I am sure the tutoring boosted his confidence.
Christopher is dedicated and friendly and always gives a full 60 minutes of his time per session.
My daughter is confidently working towards an A in her GCSE.
Tutored my 15 year in maths for 4 months leading up to GCSE`s.
Successfully improved her knowledge of the subject and helped her to pass the exam.
Chris is an excellent tutor of Maths GCSE. My daughter was predicted a grade D following a mock exam but, after three months tuition, she successfully gained a C. Chris was patient, supportive and encouraging and helped my daughter to build her confidence and skills in a subject she previously thought she would fail. I would highly recommend Chris to other parents.
My daughter struggled with GCSE maths following several changes of school and was not expected to pass. I was very impressed with both Chris` standard of teaching and the extent of his knowledge. He was able to tackle any subject with Sarah improving her confidence and ability.
Sarah passed her GCSE attaining a C which she and I were very pleased with. I am sure she could not have done this without Chris`s excellent tutoring skills.
Not only were Chris`s teaching skills excellent, but he was very pleasant, putting Sarah at ease. He was punctual, reliable and honest, often extending her tutorial time at no extra cost if time permitted
I would not hesitate to recommend Chris to any other parent looking to improve their child`s grades in Maths GCSE.
I am a mature student studying O`Level maths and found Chris on this site. I am very happy with the excellent tuition that I am receiving. Chris is amenable and patient, affording great one to one lessons and as a result my progress has been very satisfactory.
I came to Chris at first for help on passing the QTS Numeracy test to go onto to study teacher training (PGCE) with a very intense and short two week time scale. With Chris`s fantastic help and daily support I managed to improve my marks from firstly failing by 9 marks, to then only failing by 1 mark after just one week. Another week of tuition I successfully passed the QTS test on my third and final attempt.
I again came to Chris with an even tighter timescale of a week and half to pass the Equivalency GCSE Maths exam, yet again due to his constant support and dedication, my grades improved from 32% to 78% (a pass) in just under two weeks. Without Chris`s admirable patience and wonderful support I wouldn`t have been able to go to University this year.
Currently tutoring my 6 year old son for entry in to a local Wiltshire private school for year 3. Very pleased with professional attitude and my son is really enjoying his lessons. Would recommend to other parents/students.
My son Has had 2 lessons so far and seems to be very positive about them. Christopher is very encouraging and doesn`t waste a second of the hour.
