Information about Neena

Over the past five years, I have had the opportunity to gain experience in a range of skills and key stages. I started my career with a degree in nutrition, which has thoroughly helped in the planning of the Food Preparation and Nutrition (FPN) GCSE. Throughout my teaching career, I have gained a wealth of experience, including KS3,4 & 5 in Food Studies and KS3 Design Technology. This experience encourages me to develop my teaching to the highest standard when planning and delivering outstanding lessons, as well as inspire and support others to do the same.

Experience:
I have an extensive knowledge and understanding of how to use a range of teaching, learning and behaviour management strategies, including how to personalise learning to provide opportunities for all learners to achieve their potential.

More recently I have had the opportunity to take on further teaching and learning responsibilities within my secondary school. As a subject leader, I have developed a variety of skills which has included creating schemes of work and new resources to ensure engagement and retention of knowledge is at its highest potential. I have especially worked on ensuring students are being taught content throughout KS3 which helps students to consolidate their skills and knowledge later for the GCSE specification. I continue to instil strong expectations of independent revision and have developed integral revision resources and strategies for KS4 stents, such as regular mini mock exams on recently learned knowledge to ensure students have high retention and the knowledge be successful. In addition to ensuring that all students needs are addressed, I have created homework that supports and furthers students’ learning as this is paramount in determining pupil progress. For example, setting a ‘flipped learning’ homework to help develop knowledge and address misconceptions regarding different topics.

What is more, I hold very high standards when it comes to promoting a positive, supportive and collaborative working environment. I have had the opportunity over the past two years to be the school’s Student Aspiration Co-ordinator, which allowed students to have their voice heard in a range of topics, including their academic performance. Through being part of the school’s interview process for all candidates, it has given me the opportunity to understand what students look for in a a teacher/tutor; values that I now ensure to incorporate not only in my teaching and those teaching around me, but also listening to what students want when planning the SOW.

More recently I have supported the school during their Saturday School `Covid catch up` mission to support students who have missed out on their learning. I undertook a tutor role in KS3 English & Maths which ran every for nearly 8 month. Due to this, the knowledge I have of the KS3 curriculum in English and Maths is second to none. Due to my science based background I would also take on KS3 Science if required.

High quality teaching and learning must be at the forefront of ensuring student achievement, all which can be achieved through embedding learning walks within the department, regularly sharing good practice and the use of an ‘open door’ policy. All these key factors have moulded me into the teacher I am today.
