Information about Christopher

I am current a religious studies teacher in a Manchester Grammar school. I see Religious Education as central in developing students` understanding, acceptance and tolerance of beliefs while enabling students to reflect on how beliefs, morals, and values can influence behaviour and decisions. I believe the power of Religious Education is that it allows for the development of crucial skills such as evaluation, critical analysis, and the formation of evidence-based arguments that can be utilised across the broader curriculum. Through my academic studies, I have acquired an increased awareness of psychology, practical research skills and politics, all of which coincide and overlap with the topics of Religious Education and therefore provides me with the skills to deepen students’ knowledge effectively.

I have experience working as a Psychology teacher in a Manchester College, where I taught both Applied and A level Psychology. Through my teaching of psychology, I have experience supporting students to develop their understanding and awareness of both historical and current psychological approaches, including BPS core areas of psychology social, cognitive, and biological psychology. Both specifications I have taught allow students to explore contemporary issues raised in psychological research and work scientifically through their own psychological research; therefore, I have experience teaching quantitative and qualitative methods of collecting data, sampling, ethical considerations, and data analysis. In addition, during my teaching of applied psychology, I have taught students to practically apply a range of psychological theories and approaches to key topics such as gender, aggression, and consumer behaviour, thus broadening their understanding of the behaviours encountered in everyday life.

As part of my MSc Psychology course, I completed my dissertation on the links between developmental dyslexia and adult attitudes towards continuing education, exploring the long-term effects of late diagnosis and insufficient intervention. I have also carried out Thematic analysis for a piece of research on exploring parents` perspectives on early diagnosis of Neurofibromatosis type-1. My current research interests centre on the concept of "Resilient" Dyslexics, where research points to a larger volume of grey matter in resilient readers.

I can support students with both understanding content and exam techniques in Religious studies and Psychology.
