Information about Michelle

I am an enthusiastic and approachable tutor with over 25 years experience of teaching and training students aged 16 plus. I have a psychology degree which I undertook with The Open University and am a member of The British Psychological Society.

I am particularly familiar and extremely knowledgeable with the AQA and Edexcel syllabuses at A level having tutored many students in these boards with excellent results. Every year, many students attain an A or A* grade (this year, 2025, many of my cohort received A* and A even though grade boundaries were high). A number of my students have surpassed expectations and gone up at least 3 grades from where they were at prior to starting tutoring.

Both my daughters took `A` level psychology, therefore I have first-hand knowledge and understanding of the stresses that students face in wanting to do well and to get into the university of their choice. Students want to achieve the best grades they possibly can and parents feel that one to one tutoring is the best way forward to achieve this.

Psychology is a fascinating and worthwhile subject, however the syllabus can appear daunting to some as it is quite intensive. With my help it will become clearer so that students have a better understanding of all the topics and depth of knowledge. Both year 12 and year 13 are equally important as different aspects of the syllabus are taught each of the years with Year 13 building on Year 12. I ensure that all students (regardless of when they start their tutoring) not only understand the content of the syllabus, but also how to answer exam style questions; this enables students to be in a much better position to do well in the summer exams.

In addition to the above, I can help consolidate what is being taught from the school or college that a student attends, as well as addressing other important areas such as essay writing and structuring, Year 12 and 13 research methods, revision and exam technique etc to attain the highest marks.

We all have different learning styles and ways of interpreting information. This is addressed with each individual student as I am compassionate to student needs. My aim is to work with a student in all areas where they feel they need help so that they can maximise their potential and achieve their goals. I am also very patient and will go through things a number of times if need be; I also offer a free pre-tutoring session (by phone) directly with the tutee and parent to break the ice and to discuss areas that need to be covered in detail.

For those interested in having tutoring help with their degree, I obtained first-class distinctions in child psychology, both the social and cognitive research projects, counselling and cognitive psychology. However as this was quite a few years ago now I would only be able to help degree students with essay structure/proof-reading assignments rather than statistics such as SPSS.
