Information about Gaye

I train students in the reading and writing g English skills needed for 7-11+ entrance exams as well as English GCSE, A level to answer questions by learning academic and planned essay writing in structured paragraphs

Lessons are bespoke but will include creative writing, vocabulary, reading comprehension and Verbal Reasoning with spelling and grammar - for 7- 11+ Tiffin, Surrey and Kingston Grammar, St.Paul’s, King`s College in Wimbledon, St Paul`s, Latymer, the Greycoat and Dulwich College.

I assess the non-verbal Reasoning but don’t tutor it as that is included in the Bond papers for part 1.
I use a timetable plan, the recommended practice workbooks, papers and set reading.

Therefore, I recommend the comprehension texts and workbooks for reading comprehension, verbal reasoning, critical thinking, problem solving and writing argumentative, persuasive, descri ptive, transactional, discursive and creative essays.

I also recommend at home on-line practice service via the Bond and the 11 plus text books for the verbal and non-verbal reasoning tests and tasks.

I have achieved 2 11+ academic and 1 Sport scholarship, at Trinity Boys, Whitgift, & Reigate 13 +.

Lessons are dynamic, active and communicative.

We focus on a combination of all four skills, listening, reading, writing and speaking depending on student assessed need.

Grammar is covered through analysing the language and identifying variations in sentence structures, discourse analysis, register and styles.

Students learn to self-correct spelling. punctuation, and identify parts of speech.

I set tailored homework tasks depending on study need and gaps in learning. That might mean extra lessons if the child has missed KS1 due to being in a different school or system. I am able to support additional phonetic spelling and grammar as an addition to exam based lessons. Please ask for advice and times available.

I`m additionally qualified to teach English as a Second Language to British and foreign language students, for the Cambridge exams from young learner`s up to proficiency level including the academic IELTS. My interest is also how to engage students in reading English literature.

I am a Cambridge University qualified English language and literature teacher, with a subsiduary in Child Psychology, Learning Development amd The Arts.

I am also a Steiner Waldorf, Early Childhood learning and Creative Arts tutor, focussed in English language development. I trained at Emerson College, Forest Row, Sussex, UK.

I am the Founder of a School Creative Writing Programme or children and young people, conducting practical research on employing the creative arts and stories, in teaching literacy skills in primary /junior education.

For all areas, I develop English formal and informal writing, creative writing, reading comprehension, critical thinking and analytical understanding.

My lessons:
Include the above academic elements in the learning objectives for Creative writing, for the common entrance exams for primary education, 7+, 11+, 13+ and late applicants.

I have 3 home schooled SEN pupils.

I mentor for dyslexia, hard of hearing, as well as different learning styles, and students with study challenges.
So students learn by breaking up tasks into manageable chunks and having little breaks if they need to.
Tutoring is always student centred.

We contacted Gaye as we wanted support for my son in Year 5 for his English, in particular reading comprehension. Gaye`s communication with us has been excellent and the lessons are really well prepared with printed out materials and workbooks.
Gaye seems very experienced and has a gentle but focused approach which my son enjoys. The one to one attention on his writing and comprehension I`m sure will bring results.
One lesson my son could not make and Gaye was happy to provide a tutorial for my younger daughter instead - which she loved as Gaye incorporated drawing and art into the creative writing.
