Information about Jaymee

I am an Oxford University graduate with a Double First Class Masters in Chemistry (Hons). I am a fully qualified teacher, having trained at Imperial College London, and have held teaching posts at private schools, state schools and sixth form colleges. I have 10 years of tutoring experience, teaching all levels and ages with a particular emphasis on the Sciences and Mathematics at A Level and GCSE. I have extensive experience tutoring for the 7+, 11+, 13+, Common Entrance and London Independent School Entrance Exams, as well as for Oxbridge applications. I also have a First Class Masters from the Royal College of Music and teach the flute and piano. I am currently undertaking doctoral research at University College London in Computational Physics.

I am happy to teach, at short notice, specific areas of the A level Chemistry, Physics and Maths/Further Maths courses (including the applied modules: statistics, decision and mechanics).

Undergraduate Level: If you would like Chemistry tuition at undergraduate level, please discuss your needs with me through the website`s messaging system. My specialism is in Theoretical Chemistry, and teaching physical/theoretical chemistry is my focus. Undergraduate Organic/Inorganic Chemistry tuition is also available, although some advance notice of topics to be covered is helpful in these cases. Examples of the main topics I teach include:

Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry for Biologists
Quantum Mechanics,
Mathematics for Science (partial differential equations, multivariate calculus, matrix algebra, Fourier analysis etc.),
Thermodynamics (Classical/Statistical),
Reaction Kinetics and Molecular Dynamics,
Symmetry and Group Theory,
Photochemistry,
Magnetic Resonance.

When I am tutoring, I aim to provide clarity as well as bringing the subject material to life. Being flexible, and catering to the different learning styles of my students is really important to me, but within this I will still maintain a systematic and methodical approach to the learning process. For example, in a typical lesson, I will discuss some relevant theory with the student, resolving any misconceptions and identifying any areas of confusion. Then, I will work through a carefully selected problem with them, guiding them step by step through to the answer, which has the dual purpose of providing them with a worked solution that they can use for revision purposes. Finally, I will give my student a few similar questions to tackle under my supervision, until they are able to solve the problems independently.

Most of my students are taught on a weekly basis for 90 or 120 minutes, depending on what is required. Work between my sessions is an essential way of consolidating the material covered in my sessions. Normally, this will consist of a few exam problems that focus on further application of relevant theory. I will always prioritise quality over quantity when it comes to setting homework, as I am very aware that the student will already have an existing school workload and possible sport/musical commitments.

Self-motivation and willingness to work hard outside as well as in my sessions will ensure the success that my students aspire to.

Great tutor! Jaymee provided lots of questions for me to do in preparation for my Maths, Further Maths and Physics A-Levels. If I struggled on anything or got something wrong, he would take the time to talk me through it and explain. Would recommend!
