Information about Laura

I graduated from the University of Bristol with a 2.1 degree in History of Art and Spanish and have since gone on to become a Primary School teacher. Academically, I am a high achiever and I enjoy being able to share my love of learning with children, nurturing all pupils on their individual journeys to achieve their full potential.

I am extremely motivated to make learning fun and accessible for everyone whilst igniting children’s love of learning. By creating my own materials and activities, I am able to tailor my sessions and adapt my teaching methods to meet the needs of each child. I also focus on building strong and trustworthy relationships with the students which in turn make for positive and successful lessons.

My enthusiastic personality paired with my patience allows me to help my students overcome their difficulties whilst furthering their strengths, creating a culture that encourages and reassures children of all attainments. I seek to inspire confidence and motivation by drawing out my student’s enthusiasm of subjects to ensure on-going interest in the sessions.

When I was living in Madrid, during my Erasmus year, I tutored English to Bilingual children. I regularly employed a range of fun activities, such as outings to museums and cooking, to improve their English and Numeracy skills in a fun and informal environment. My positive relationship with their parents was vital in creating a supportive environment and facilitating open conversations about their children’s progress.

In my spare time I am often cooking and having grown up in the countryside I have a huge passion for the outdoors.

Willing to travel: 20 miles

Experience: I am a primary school teacher. I have had experience with the upper end of KS2 and the younger years in KS1. I completed two placements during my PGCE at state schools in London, teaching classes of 30 children. Both of these placements were hugely successful. I planned and taught every subject to my class, creating my own resources and leading school trips. In September, I will be a class teacher for Year 3 at a single form entry State school in London.

Throughout my training, I have spent time observing and assisting in classes from Reception to year 6, I have had the opportunity to experience many different teaching styles and use them in a variety of situations.

During my Erasmus year in Madrid, I was a private tutor to two families, both had children between 6 and 11. I taught English as an additional language through written activities, trips to museums and conversation. There was noticeable improvement in every child, with my student`s respective schools commenting on improved fluency, accuracy and confidence.
