Information about Alison

I am an East Dulwich-based, primary school teacher with ten years experience teaching throughout primary year groups.
I am here to help boost your children`s skills, knowledge and confidence in maths or English, including grammar, phonics, reading and spelling.

Whether you are looking for support to pass 11+ or 7+ entrance examinations, or to enable your child to catch up with their peers, I can deliver a tailor-made series of sessions to achieve successful results.

I am trained in the latest Singapore-style maths incorporating concrete, pictorial and abstract methods of learning how to break down maths problems. And with a background in PR and marketing, I can help them to learn to write with flair.

My approach to teaching and learning is a fun and creative one, ensuring that your children are engaged and wanting to make progress.
My starting point is with your aspiration and your child`s current abilities. Then, the steps to achieve the agreed goal are created in digestible chunks to reach a successful outcome.

In addition, I am trained to teach French and can provide tutoring up to GCSE, focusing on vocabulary, grammar and pronunciation, whilst making the learning fun and inspiring.

Availability: At present, I only have Thursday free - ideally 5pm - 6pm. I tutor in SE15, SE22, SE21 and SE19.

Willing to travel: 2 miles

Experience: I qualified as a primary school teacher ten years ago, after a career in events marketing.
Since becoming a teacher, I have taught year 6 and year 4 classes and been an intervention teacher in year 2, so I am familiar with the demands and requirements of SATS. In addition, I have experience of teaching the full breadth of the curriculum through being a PPA cover and supply teacher, including long-term contracts in reception classes. Since starting tutoring in 2020, I have developed experience of supporting children with 11+ preparation, confidence boosting in maths and English and supporting children with dyslexia, dyscalculia and autism.

The aspects of teaching which I most enjoy are supporting and nurturing learners and finding how best to present the learning so that they engage, process and accomplish. Being able to teach to an individual’s learning needs, incorporating topics and ideas that he or she can relate to, is always my priority.
