Information about Laura

I am a 24 year old who has spent the last 7 months working in a primary school as an Academic Mentor as part of the National Tutoring Programme. I have been mentoring Year 5 pupils in reading, writing and maths both 1:1 and in small groups. I have experience of working with children who have a range of different abilities and needs, and tutored both online and in person.
With my qualifications and experience, I am comfortable tutoring History up to A-Level, English up to GCSE, and Primary Maths. I would also be very happy to help with 11+ work.
I understand that it can be a bit scary starting tutoring with somebody you don`t know! I`m friendly and approachable, and my aim is to make you feel comfortable to ask questions so that you can get the most out of tutoring.

Availability: I am flexible at the moment, and under current conditions very willing to tutor online with the potential to move onto in person teaching when circumstances change.

Willing to travel: 3 miles

Experience: Having worked in a primary school as an Academic Mentor for the past 7 months, I have experience in mentoring KS2 children in reading, writing and maths. As part of my role, I planned and delivered tailored sessions to small groups and 1:1, adapting material to fit the children`s individual needs. This role has not only given me a working knowledge and understanding of the curriculum, but also the skills and techniques needed to engage children and get the most out of their learning.
Before this, I volunteered with the Schools Programme at the Ragged School Museum, where I lead historical sessions for classes of children. This previous work, along with my own experiences of education has given me an understanding of the need to engage students effectively and follow their interests in order to ensure success.
