Information about Douglas
I studied English at the University of Cambridge, where I graduated with a 1st in 2015.
I offer a relaxed, patient and sympathetic approach to tutoring. In teaching, knowing a subject well is useless unless one is capable of viewing it from the perspective of someone who does not. As such, I endeavour always to approach a subject or problem from the tutee`s point of view and work with them towards building understanding and proficiency.
I can also take a more consultative approach, by which I aid older/ more proficient students with essay technique and develop their ability to articulate their ideas.
Availability: I am generally available to tutor on weekday evenings.
Willing to travel: 10 miles
Experience: I have tutored multiple students for 11+, 13+, GCSE and A Level in English, History, Philosophy and Humanities, plus Maths, French and Verbal Reasoning for younger students. I have helped multiple 11+ candidates gain entry to their preferred schools; GCSE students achieve A* (8/9) Grades and A Level candidates achieve their university offers.
From 2016-17, I worked as Graduate Assistant to the Drama Department of Stamford School in Lincolnshire. In this capacity, I taught drama classes between year 8 and year 13, helped individual students with drama school and university applications, led rehearsal-based workshops for students between the ages of 11 and 16, and tutored individual students with GCSE & A-level coursework and essay technique. I also supervised several EPQ projects and coached a number of Oxbridge applicants.

Taught my son for English Language and Literature GCSE. Really nice chap, superb knowledge, and very patient. Very nice style of teaching. Son has ADD so not always easy to engage with but Doug was lovely with him and managed to get the best out of him. Definitely recommend.
