Information about Angelica

I am a King’s College London French graduate and an aspiring opera singer. I am currently doing a Masters in singing at The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. I have been teaching and tutoring for the past two years and I thoroughly enjoy it. I like tutoring because it is wonderful seeing students learn and cultivate new passions.

I have recently moved to Glasgow and would like to continue tutoring while doing my masters degree at the conservatoire. I have a lot of experience in tutoring and can provide references on demand.

Availability: I have availability in the afternoons, evenings and weekends.

Willing to travel: 5 miles

Experience: For the past two years I have been tutoring 7+, 9+, 11+ and 13+ in the North London area. My aim with these lessons is to fill any gaps that the student might have. With my students, I focused on expanding their vocabulary through reading regularly and effectively, finding gaps in their maths and English knowledge and tackling those problems head on as well as introducing them to the format of the exam and what is expected of them.

I have a lot of experience working with kids aged 3 to 8. I had one 6 year old student whom I saw every week for a homework lesson. I also had two students, aged 3 and 5, whom I saw once a week for a joint singing lesson. We played music games, learnt songs and put on shows for their parents at the end of each lesson to show what they had learnt. I had another 6 year old singing pupil whom I worked with once a week. We worked on learning repertoire and singing in the correct way. I think it is wonderful to work with younger kids as they see the world in a completely different way to adults, which I find inspiring.

I tutored two brothers 7+ and 11+ two times a week. With the younger brother, my aim was to build up his concentration so that he would be able to easily concentrate throughout the 7+ exam. In order to do this we worked intensively for 15-20 minutes with short breaks in between activities. I tried to find interesting ways to teach him new vocabulary and fun activities to help him with his creative writing. With the older brother, we concentrated predominantly on the techniques that are needed for creative writing, what to look for in comprehension and we went through anything he might not fully understand in maths. We also worked on non-verbal and verbal reasoning.

I was a teaching assistant at the London Russian Music School on Sundays. There, I helped children from the age of 4 to 13 understand and learn about music. My responsibilities included privately helping children who were struggling with class work, assistant teaching singing, privately teaching singing and helping out with the two choirs – Junior Choir (ages 4 to 9) and Senior Choir (ages 10 to 15).

I tutored GCSE French to a girl in year 10. The main focus in our sessions was speaking and grammar. I helped her understand the grammar that she had been taught at school and we learnt more advanced grammar. Together we discovered new vocabulary in each lesson and then she would do a vocabulary test each week in order to expand her French knowledge.

Most recently, I accompanied a Chinese family on their holiday around the UK. I travelled with them for 12 days and taught the two girls (5 and 6 years old) about English culture and about the English language. I think this experience taught me a lot about working with younger children and ways to get them to concentrate even when they are feeling tired. The family also very much enjoyed the experience and would like to do another trip next summer.
