Experience: I have 4 years of experience tutoring students from year 4 til year 13. I specialise in 11+ and alevel biology tuition, but offer maths and chemistry too til GCSE level.

How the lesson works:

Initial lesson - this lesson usually consists of a short assessment and introduction to my teaching style. The assessment gives me a hint of where the student is at, what their strengths/weaknesses are and what they hope to gain from my sessions. I then use all of this information to devise a lesson plan and schedule with the student. I keep complete transparency with my students, and let them know exactly what I intend to cover and when so they can let me know if they wish to change anything.

My lessons are personalised to each student but a rough outline of how most lessons go is as follows:
- 10 minute starter - this can be a puzzle, game, blurt or “teach me” session
- 40 minutes of content - this is where I introduce new content which is usually in the format of a PowerPoint or an interactive whiteboard session
- 10 minute plenary for any questions or a quick recap/exam question session to solidify learning

The lesson plan is fully customisable for each student and I can easily change the lesson pace to suit the students needs. For example, if a student has a test on specific topics coming up, I will prioritise covering those topics and doing exam questions over starters/plenaries.

I am familiar with all GCSE and A-level exam boards and follow the specification guidelines exactly. All content and exam questions I use come directly from the exam board so students will be fully prepared for their exams. I also give expert advice and tips on how to study and revise effectively outside lessons.
