Information about Ummay

Hello! I`m , an educational psychology student at a Russell Group university in the UK. Here are a few interesting things about me. In terms of languages spoken, English is my first language but I can also speak conversational Urdu, Punjabi, and Spanish. I think that learning languages is such a fulfilling experience, and I would recommend it to anyone - including my students! Regarding hobbies, this may sound cliche, but I have always loved reading books, and I currently enjoy reading both novels and non-fiction material. Another thing that I like to do in my spare time is art - such as working with oil pastels and acrylic paint on a canvas. Finally, three words to describe me would be: hard-working, empathetic and funny!

Willing to travel: 3 miles

Experience: I have tutored students, both 1-1 and in small groups as well as both face to face and online, with their GCSE English Language, English Literature and Biology studies. Students who I have worked with have been of varying academic ability, with some working at C/D (or 3/4 for the new 9-1 system) grades and others working at A/A* (or 7/8 for the new 9-1 system) grades. This means that I have had to develop a great deal of versatility and creativity when browsing, creating and teaching with numerous learning materials. Throughout the 3 years or so that I have been tutoring, my knowledge of and ability to reflect subject-specific curriculum criteria in my lessons has constantly improved, and this has been evidenced in the progress that my students (particularly the 1-1 tuition students) have made over time, with both of our hard work. During my tutoring career thus far, I have written detailed, lucid lesson reports for my students` parents/guardians to read and (optionally) talk to me about. What`s more, my degree education in educational psychology has taught me a vast amount of valuable information - both theoretical and practical - about what effective learning does and doesn`t look like. So not only do I have experience in tutoring students of different levels, online, face to face, in groups, 1-1, but unlike many tutors, I also hold knowledge and understanding of the research behind effective learning. I look forward to meeting you and your child(ren) in a lesson!
