A human eye is an organ of the body which reacts to light and has many other purposes within the upper and skeletal body. An average person blinks up to 15-20 times a min. The reason for blinking in a biological sense is to simply lubricate the ocular surface of the eye balls as well as to remove any dust or debris from the eyes consequently preventing dryness to cornea of the eye. Another reason for blinking is for the relaxing of eye lid muscles. But exactly how do the mechanisms of blinking work?. There are 3 main muscles responsible for the simple mechanism of opening and closing of the eye lids. Firstly, the Levator Palpebrae Superiosis muscle is a smooth muscle which is responsible for elevating the eye lid by the contraction of the muscle. The shortening of the muscle allows the eye lid to lift. Another muscle is the Orbicularis Oculi This muscle is also a smooth muscles and is responsible for closing the eye lids. The LPS muscle and OO muscles work in a contraction relax phase when one relaxes the other contracts. In an engineering sense some of the parameters which are in consideration are: Speed of blinking, distance of blinking (aperture), amplititude and most importantly the force
