I qualified as a literacy tutor three years ago and have taught continuously since in two local colleges and a high school teaching functional skills and its preceding adult literacy test to a wide age range from age 14 to adults. I try to make the subject relevant and interesting as well as fun when and where possible and have had a high success rate at exam level.I also currently tutor two school students privately and have taught in GCSE intervention classes in the school where I am currently employed one day a week, having reduced my days there from three days a week as a teaching assistant, to study for my teaching qualification.

I decided to train as a teacher when my youngest child was at primary school, having worked there on a voluntary basis and also after teaching her and her sister their reception year at home, after which both joined Yr 1 ahead of their peers. I also taught my other four daughters to read before they started school and always encouraged all of them in their education, five of them going to study at university and the sixth currently awaiting her A level results.

I have a keen interest in sport particularly football and enjoy swimming, playing badminton, cycling and body boarding when on holiday in Devon and Cornwall.

I hope to increase the number of students I tutor and hope I can help them to enjoy as well as improve their knowledge and ability in what I see as an essential life skill.
