MATHEMATICS CAN BE MADE EASY: Mathematics is the foundation of the world and it is applied to every sector of life. Since I first started studying mathematics I have been captivated by its challenges, and how it can be used to find a solution from the simplest to the most complicated problem, this cannot be done without teaching it. I can successfully teach mathematics from GCSE to A` levels. People often have the opinion that maths and science are for intelligent people, and they cannot do it, as they are not smart enough. This is a lie, I discovered that the teaching methodology used was one of the major reasons why mathematics seems difficult; I have used a teaching technology designed by Ron L. Hubbard to teach many students mathematics at different levels and got very beautiful results. I used his works that consists of tools and techniques teachers can use to improve the learning rates of students. I studied them at Applied Scholastics International USA that involves - How to work and live with children, Progressive teaching tools, Communication skills, Advance course for Educators during my teaching of mathematics at Adekunle Ajasin University. I discovered that it was not quite clear to teach a topic or a concept in mathematics without the objects related to that concept been seen, or also when a student have not mastered a prior skill before going on to more complicated or detailed steps. I was able to identify and handle this by providing some physical objects to explain the concepts of maths being taught, this made my students to develop interest and perform better in maths. Over the years, I have used the concept of Progressive teaching to structure my lesson, with flexibility and extra support for students of a lesser ability, or those who learn in a different manner because not all techniques work for all children. I have turned around a classroom of bored, disinterested and disruptive students and make them interested and even eager to learn maths. The roles and responsibilities of a mathematics teacher is very sensitive, I understands the teaching/learning cycle which includes: Identifying the specific needs of the students, the organisation they are planning to work in order to plan and design what to teach; how to give the students some simple mathematics or numeracy tasks to know their level of mathematics, find out what they actually need to be taught, understanding the best way they can acquire the knowledge, and knowing the boundaries and level of work that must be taught. Planning and designing my work is very important to achieve a good result, I know how to plan what to teach mathematics in a virtual learning environment, how it will be taught, prepare teaching aids to make the teaching of mathematics interesting and plan the duration in which each session will take. The class must hold in a good and conducive environment, the scheme of work must be divided into modules and provide corresponding research materials where necessary. I know how to decide what knowledge must be acquired at the end of each module or session. The method of teaching is important. I understand that they are different ways of impacting knowledge. There is inclusive teaching that is interactive, research shows that it is one of the best ways of teaching, progressive teaching is another method which L. Ron Hubbard discussed in his book titled Progressive Teaching Tools for Educators. It is a method whereby each student moves at his own pace but they will eventually get to the same point. I have used these methods to teach mathematics for children ages 16+ years old and it worked perfectly. I have gained a lot of experience in teaching maths for about 20years, I have taught it at different levels in Nigerian schools and I have organized several workshops on how to use different areas of maths to solve real life problems in different sectors. I have worked and counselled many students for several years against cultism, hooliganism and other anti-social behaviours and invited their parents when the need be as the Staff Adviser to undergraduates in my former working place. I can efficiently manage and prioritise workloads that are difficult. I have the ability and initiatives to work as a team with colleagues and maintain good working relationships with people that exhibit challenging behaviours and seek advice and guidance from management where necessary. I have also helped out in many school activities including training students for mathematics competitions, helping out in the counselling of students in which I won an award as the best student adviser in 2012. I have being giving several responsibilities by my head of department and also served in different academic and non-academic committees in the University. As a mathematics tutor, I know that everybody matters in a class regardless of ethnicity, sex, learning ability. I am ready to undertake a CRB check and register with suitable professional bodies. I am also ready to undertake all duties and responsibilities in accordance with school policies and relevant legislation, inclusive of Equal Opportunities, Health & Safety, Data Protection, Child and Vulnerable Adult Protection, Financial regulations and Quality frameworks. I have completed the PTLLS programme at Barking & Dagenham College on 26th June 2013 and willing to acquire higher teaching qualifications.
