Nowadays we all have access to a myriad of musical resources. That might be choosing a ringtone for our mobile phone, playing with an app or being able to watch tutorials online. Does this help us to learn ? Well it certainly is helpful to check things out ! Can`t quite remember where the notes are ? Which chord did we play in the lesson ? How did my teacher know which fingers to use ? What music has my favourite piano player recorded ? These sorts of questions might go through your head when you get home from your piano lesson. All music related and now you have the chance to check things out. You might drop your teacher an e-mail to clarify some of these questions, but some you can research yourself. One of my students this week was telling me how she had been checking out where the notes are on a piano by looking at YouTube videos. Brilliant ! What a great way to see other piano players. Are there are any downsides ? Well obviously some videos will be better than others. You might not know if something is being modelled correctly, but overall I would much rather my students searched for other examples. It`s all learning and will speed up your work in lessons. Look out too for websites that have good information . A good place to start would be the abrsm website.Good luck !
