First of all, in order to make friends, I believe that interaction with others frequently is needed. However, some places are more adequate for making friends. For shy people, joining a sports team and doing volunteer service makes them easier to close to others than travel. This is due to the fact that sports and volunteer service are given a common goal to achieve. In other words, even though the shy people have difficulty with communicating with new people, these activities make them more comfortable with the guidelines as to what they "should" be doing.
On the other hand, traveling would be better for outgoing people to meet new friends. They originally enjoy to meet new and variety of people without any hesitation. Though other activities often have pre-established goal, as I mentioned above, travel does not have that kind of restriction. For outgoing people, the required aim maybe seen as a drawback that hinders free interaction. In the unlimited environment such as travel, they talk and react freely with great enjoyment, thus they will close each other in a brief time.
In conclusion, joining a sports team or a volunteer group may be the ideal environment for shy people to meet new friends. They have a hard time initiating and maintaining interactions with new people. And the guidelines may help those who did not know what to do when meeting new people. On the other hand, for outgoing people, traveling may be more ideal in terms of making new friends. Traveling, when compared to joining a sports or volunteer service, offers opportunities for travelers to freely interact with people.
