As I stepped outside tonight, it started to rain. It hasn`t rained here for several weeks and we have just experienced the highest ever temperatures recorded in England. I watched the News last night - I was horrified to see fires in London, one was started in a compost bin! It is believed that global warming is causing higher temperatures for longer, over wider areas of England. Sadly, the rain has stopped after just a few spots!
Ed endings have different pronunciation patterns although the words have the same spelling. Confusing, huh?
Regular past participles, regular past tense positive verbs and adjectives ending in -ed all follow the pattern.
For most, it is /d/ for example, believed, loved, rained, borrowed, played, named, scared, horrified
With `t`, `d` it is /Id/ posted, hated, raided, landed, stated, recorded
Put your hand in front of your mouth and say a sound. If you can feel your breath with your hand, you need a `t` sound. For example, say `k` - can you feel your breath? Try cooked.
It should sound like cookT.
Try stopped, started, kissed, watched, hoped, exhausted, washed, walked, worked, boxed, experienced
Have fun! I hope that helps.
