If you were to contact me to inquire about lessons, for example EFL lessons, this is how you might expect things to go.

You could expect half of each lesson to be conversation between the two of us. Although it will not be strict, there will be some kind of theme tying this together, some area of vocabulary which over the time we will be aiming to improve: it might be things you do in your leisure time, or how you feel about the European union. During the conversation I will correct all vocabulary and grammatical mistakes, and if necessary will explain in depth any grammatical or syntactical theories which you do not grasp.

The second half of the lesson will be an in depth look at the mechanics of the English language. Depending on your level of English this could vary from the difference between an adjective and an adverb to the difference between "its" and "it`s", to the correct uses of conditional clauses.

Finally, I would expect students to do some outside work for the course. As a minimum I would ask you to read a newspaper or watch the BBC news each and every day: this will both broaden your vocabulary and get you used to proper pronunciation, as BBC news presenters are chosen for their neutral accents. I also would hope, but not insist, that students buy/ take out of their local library a book of my choosing, and read one chapter every day with a dictionary, looking up every single word they do not understand. Any they have trouble with we can discuss when they have a lesson. I would also encourage students to look at the book critically, so that we can talk about themes, writing style, or anything else. Lastly, I will send via email links to various lectures, videos, audiobooks, documentaries podcasts, forums etc which I think may be of use.

If you are interested in how I would teach any of my other classes, please do contact me.
