11+ Setting Descri ptions
When we re describing the setting in our story, it s best if we describe it as our character explores it, so that the reader feels like they re discovering it alongside them.
Instead of describing everything from a static position:
I stood in the doorway and saw a bright red sofa, a golden clock on the wall, a shelf stuffed with books and an amazing mural on the ceiling.
See if you can weave these details into the descri ption as your character travels through the space. See if your character can interact with the setting too!

I tiptoed into the room and across to the far side where I sank into a beautiful bright red sofa.
Having rested for a moment, I stood and followed the sound of ticking to an impressive golden clock on the wall.
My eye was drawn to a bookshelf on the far side of the room and I wandered across to it, running my fingers along the dusty spines of the books and picking one up to leave through its old worn pages.
I gazed upwards and gasped at an incredibly detailed mural on the ceiling. I reached my fingers upwards and touched the beautifully painted flowers above me.
