How to excel in your Arabic Writing 20 mark questions

Step 1:

Understand the genre. This should influence the style of writing that you should write and the language, if you are writing a letter to a friend your language is likely to be less formal but if you are writing a blog or a letter to a government official the language would be much more formal. Here you are uploading an informal/unofficial article to an Arabic website about your opinion on the aspirations of the youth.

Step 2:

READ the criteria carefully, you will be penalised if you miss out anything you must include. Here the criteria are: 1. what kind of person you are.2. Work that you have done before 3. The importance of youngsters having aspirations or not and 4. Your future plans

Step 3:

Pay attention to the word limit. Anything excessively over the word limit will not be marked. A few extra words is fine. For 80-90 words, write about 9-12 lines. You should know roughly how many words you write in a line and make an individual judgement of how many lines you need to write. In Arabic, there may be two or more words joined together.

Step 4:

COMMUNICATE CLEARLY! The examiner should know exactly what you are trying to say. This is something that you will be marked on.

Step 5:

USE a range of VOCABULARY and PHRASES. Usage of vocabulary shows at least a basic understanding of the themes and the usage of phrases shows confidence and prowess.

Step 6:

Use DIFFERENT tenses and COMPLEX SENTENCE STRUCTURES. This is what really makes the difference between a 4/5 and a 7-9

Step 7:

Make sure you have correct GRAMMAR AND SPELLING. In a 20 mark question, 8 marks are for grammar and literacy.
