Here are a few tips that you can use to help excel in your Listening mocks!

1. Practice! This is THE MOST IMPORTANT tip. Even if you memorise a large list of vocabulary and you can read like an expert, you will not be able to understand what the speaker is saying if you do not practice listening. This is because you will not be used to the speed of talking which will cause you to miss crucial information needed to answer your questions and it will cause you to panic which is never a good thing. Pick some songs, movies, video clips or really anything you can lay your hands on in your selected language that you can listen to and practice! You may even want to look up radio shows or tv channels in the language.

2. Vocabulary! Although I said that vocabulary is not the be all and end all, there is no doubt that a good vocabulary base is necessary to provide a good foundation. If you do not memorise some vocabulary you will struggle to understand some questions and you will also struggle to understand the message that the speaker is trying to get across! Do not try to memorise extensive lists of vocabulary because although it helps to keep a list of vocabulary and phrases it is humanly impossible to memorise it! Instead you should expand your vocabulary range by reading articles, newspapers and other materials or listening to songs, watching movies or using the words that you have learnt in conversation and writing. This will help you grasp how each word or phrase is used and what it means in different contexts.

3. Timetable- This is not just relevant to listening exams or assignment or MFL GCSEs. This is relevant for your whole life. You will definitely not be productive in studying, working or any other commitments in your life if you do not have a structured timetable which you stick to! More specific to GCSEs, it will be impossible for you to balance out all of your GCSEs in terms of how much time you dedicate to each of them and you will start handing in assignments late (essential for this years GCSEs), not revising enough, adding unnecessary stress through last minute revision and the rest is history.

4. SMART targets. You need to set SMART targets (targets that are Specific Measurable Achievable Realistic and Time-bound) for your revision. These targets will help you to plan your revision effectively and efficiently reducing the amount of stress you have to tolerate. They will also help you hold yourself to account and see whether you have been performing as well as you should be.

That`s all for now. I hope this helps whoever needs the help.
