What Is Christianity

Christianity is one of the major religions of the World, such as Buddhism, Hinduism, and Islam , etc. Christianity was founded by Jesus of Nazareth in Palestine. Jesus later became known as the Christ or the Messiah by his followers and Christianity derives it`s name from the word Christ, and therefore the followers of Christianity became known as Christians in Antioch ( see & Acts of the apostles). Christianity has it`s root in Judaism and the Jewish culture. When it started spreading outside Palestine to the rest of the World, it departed from Judaism and took a distinct form in it`s practices, believes, and teachings. Christianity based it`s teachings on the Holy Bible as it`s official and authoritative text, as far as matters of faith and morals are concerned. christianity on its way adopted many other cultures especially the European cultures when it reached Europe .today christitanity faces the challenge of making itself feel at home in the different cultures of the World therefore, it must inculturate itself in this cultures. Otherwise it`s followers will find themselves torn apart between the Christian teachings and there cultural believes and practices, like in Africa and Asia. Christianity has greatly contributed to the development of the World civilization through it`s arts and ideas. The peace of the World owes it`s stability to the contributions made by the spread of Christianity to almost all the corners of the Continent. This subject matter requires further exploration as Christianity is so rich and wide in it`s sphere.
