PEEL structure explained to write better in History

What does PEEL stand for?

P- point E- evidence E- explanation L- Link (back to the question)

In History, you are required as a student to write a lot as History is all about formulating your own judgement and understanding about a historical event and then being able to support that with evidence in verbal and written work. Therefore, this writing technique of PEEL structure will enable you to write much better and clearer, guaranteeing you with higher grades.

For example, if we use this question- "Do you agree that Queen Mary I deserved the `Bloody Mary` title? to answer it using the PEEL technique it can go something like this:

P(point)- Yes I agree that Queen Mary I deserved the `Bloody Mary" title. - (clear judgement- great start)

E(evidence)- Evidence to suggest this is the number of people she burned alive for following a religion that she did not allow in her reign. It has been said that almost 300 Protestants were burned alive by Mary`s order.

E(explanation)- This suggests that she supported and promoted violence and death as she was the one who ordered the execution herself. This shows she was very strict, merciless and was ready to give the harshest punishment to those who did not follow her.

L(link back to question)- Therefore, by killing hundreds of people and shedding blood of those who simply did not obey her, is a justified reason to call her by the title, `Bloody Mary`.

This is just an example of what written work should look like on a small scale. Using structure techniques given by teachers and schools will ensure better writing and better grades!
