When it comes to maths it always seem simple to understand as there is always a set answer.

However, in school we try to teach skills that can be used across the curriculum and in real life.

Therefore, it can be a fantastic idea to use real life experiences when it comes to helping your child understand maths.

For examples:

Money - Go to the shops and buy 1 or 2 items. Ask your child to calculate the sum and find the coins that you would need to pay. After a while you can get your child to guess the change. If they get the answer correct they get to keep the change! - This was a game changer for me when I was younger!

Addition - Using fruit to do simple additions can be fun as the child can move the objects about to understand how addition works.

You can use the same method for subtraction too!!

I hope that these methods have been useful.

I will aim to add a new article every fortnight.
