Tertiary Education Challenges

In the article "Tertiary Education Challenges," the writer, Ching Jorge, stated the three crucial national goals such as educating the youth to become active and productive citizens, producing competent and globally competitive graduates and increasing human capital and productivity. These goals remain elusive challenges that confront the stakeholders of the Philippine educational system. This national issue demands a collaborative solution. Each sector of the society has an important role to do. I believe it won't be proactive to put all the blame to CHED, DepED, school administrators and politicians, among others. As part of the education force, I can only do as much through my own passionate and purposive ways. As a teacher, I am convinced that I have the great responsibility and accountability in moulding my learners to become competent, globally competitive, skilled and values-oriented citizens. I am committed to this mission especially I have seen and felt the urgent need to make a greater difference. Whatever my contribution it will just be a fractional part. This national concern needs a national solution. I am hoping that the Philippines will never procrastinate the necessary measures for nation building. Finally, I do agree with Fr. Jett Villarin, SJ, the new ADMU president, that educators, educational institutions and other stakeholders must serve as "change catalysts" and "culture shapers." I think these objectives must be restored if we are really serious to improve the status quo of the country. The call for nation building is not just a dream but a reality this time. Fr. Jett further expressed that nation building also involves strengthening and deepening love of country. "If you`re going to build the nation, you cannot build what you do not love. You cannot love what is not your own," he said.
