PROFILE

Experienced, qualified, reliable and patient maths tutor (face to face or online ) who has taught in both primary and secondary schools for the past 16 years, teaching mathematics up to and including GCSE Higher (Edexcel, AQA,OCQ and other examination boards ), as well as KS2/KS3 English (Comprehension, spelling, phonics , punctuation, grammar, letter and creative writing structure etc), Verbal Reasoning and NVR, in preparation for SATs, 11+,13+ independent /private school entrance examinations or just as a general confidence booster.

Graduated in April 2007 and May 2016, as well as gaining a distinction in my Teaching Diploma (2011). Prior to entering the teaching profession I worked in various managerial roles for 2 globally renowned International banks in London (City) for 3 decades until I took unplanned redundancy in December 2010 due to an office relocation to Manchester, hence where my passion, drive and enthusiasm for maths, number crunching and solving problems has been derived from.

I have achieved excellent all round GCSE results to date (2010 - 2025) and last year (2024) all 5 of my private tutees attained grades 7- 9* in the Higher GCSE which is the equivalent to the previous A*- A style grading system, so I am immensely proud of their recent achievements and keeping up my impeccable record of achieving top grade passes at GCSE. Two tutees passed with a grade 9 (A*grade) and have accepted places to join the 6th form at Saint Olaves Grammar School, Orpington from their current settings, Wilmington Grammar School for Boys and Chislehurst & Sidcup Grammar School respectively.

In 2023, all 6 of my private tutees accomplished good passes in their GCSE Higher maths with 2 doing exceptionally well, achieving a level 9 pass. Both of my 11+ tutees secured places at their pre-selected Kent grammar schools, (Tunbridge Grammar School for Boys and Bexley Grammar School), having successfully achieved high scores in either the Kent or Bexley selective tests, again achievements I am extremely proud of!

I have just found out today, (results day),Thursday 21 August 2025 that all 8 of my private students (100%) have achieved strong passes in their recent GCSE maths with several achieving top grades,(7-9*) helping them to secure a place in their respective 6th Forms to pursue their A Levels or further studies.

I have a current Enhanced DBS (dated August 2023) on the update service which has been both approved and verified. References and feedback are available from current and past students upon request covering the past 7 years. In September 2022, 9 of my tutees who sat the 11+ Grammar School entrance tests were successful with one student being invited back to sit the 2nd phase of the St. Olaves Grammar School, Orpington selective test whilst another one achieved a top 180 ranking in the Bexley schools 11+ selective tests, gaining an automatic place to their first choice grammar school. I am really elated for these children and their well deserved reward for the effort and sheer hard work they have all put in to achieve such fantastic outcomes! Summing up, in 2022 - 95% of my private tutees passed the selective grammar school tests which was another excellent year for the students despite having to sit them in extremely difficult and challenging post - Covid conditions.

Concluding, my students in 2025 and for the previous 10 years (when examinations actually did take place) have been highly successful and I have been extremely proud of their successes and the superb efforts they have all put in throughout the year to accomplish them. I am hoping for another set of excellent results in the next academic year (2026) to equal those of recent years, albeit it has been a very difficult and challenge time getting through these post pandemic years supporting students who have undoubtedly experienced some noticeable gaps in their learning through not being able to attend structured lesson time at their respective settings.

I am a Full Member of The Tutor Association with MTA designatory status. Recently studied and completed a BA (Hons.) degree in Teaching Support & Learning at the University of Greenwich, London 2 days a week. I was nominated for ‘Tutor of the Year’ in 2018 by several of my tutee’s parents at a nationally renowned education franchise. Gained accredited status for 13+ private school entrance exams in 2018. Became a fully trained ETTA ( Emotionally Trained Trusted Adult) in June 2025.

Married to my wife, Lorraine with 2 sons, aged 32 and 34. I enjoy most sports, especially football, swimming, rugby and cricket. I also like to socialise with family and friends, listening to music (70`s/80`s), reading autobiographies, DIY, gardening and recently I have started to learn some elementary conversational Spanish. I am an ex qualified sports coach and football referee, (now retired- Level 6 ) and have also attended and completed a cricket umpiring course.

I have worked in several managerial roles during my banking career spanning 30 years. Due to high rents and increased operational costs I was unfortunately made redundant from RBS, London in December 2010) and as a consequence of this my entire department relocated to the bank’s Manchester offices. I have a friendly personality and like meeting people from all walks of life, as well as going on holiday to relax, go sightseeing and watching local theatre productions.

Experience: MY TUTORING EXPERIENCE

Over 16 years private professional maths tutoring experience up to and including GCSE Higher, as well as KS2/KS3 English, Verbal and NVR covering: Problem Solving, Sequences, Coding and Spatial Awareness. I have tutored in both primary and secondary schools predominately in a whole class setup but on the odd occasions working with small groups of children in Year groups 4 to 6 or students in Year groups 7-11 to help them improve and broaden their numeracy knowledge and skills, as well as to give them a confidence boost whilst they are currently studying the subject at their respective settings.

Currently, I am supporting maths across all year groups (up to and including Year 11) at a local coeducational secondary school (with Academy status) in Bromley, Kent where I have worked for the past 11 years, working with students of mixed ability predominantly in a whole class setup but occasionally on a 1-1 basis or in a small group away from the classroom to enhance and raise their ability levels in the subject, as well as to provide them with additional support and confidence in the subject with the aim of improving their predicted current maths grades as determined by their school.

I am extremely passionate about all aspects of mathematics and aim to deliver my sessions in such a manner that students will find them very easy to follow and be fully engaged in but at the same time to appreciate and liken both the structure and content so that they come away from each tutorial knowing that they have absorbed and learnt a sufficient amount from them to be motivated, energised and enthusiastic enough to want to come to the next lesson to engage and learn even more in both a relaxed and pleasant learning environment.

I will always strive to give students excellent value for money by way of tuition, focusing my time on enriching the learning of the student, prioritising the learner’s individual requirements and tailoring my lessons to them and monitoring their levels of progress throughout their learning process, using up to date methods and applicable resources to accomplish this.

At my present setting I will also intermittently help Year 11 students prepare for their forthcoming GCSE exams, either in a whole classroom environment or in small groups positioned away from it with the primary focus being on improving their current predicted grade of a 5 to 7 to an even better one.

I have over 16 years private tutoring experience with considerable success over this period, as well as getting plenty of satisfaction and enjoyment from helping and passing on my knowledge, skills and passion to my students during these rewarding and memorable years. Long may it continue!

Wayne has been outstanding with my daughter who is due to take her higher maths GCSE this summer. We booked fairly last minute but Wayne has pulled out all the stops to get her on track. Wayne prepares the lesson and sends extra examples for her to work through. My daughter is feeling more confident and prepared for the coming exams. Thank you.
