Information about Wayne
Experienced, qualified, passionate, honest, reliable and patient tutor, (face to face or online) who has taught in both Primary and Secondary education for the past 16 years, teaching mathematics up to and including GCSE Higher Level, ( Edexcel, AQA and WCEA exam boards), as well as KS2/KS3 English (Comprehension, grammar, creative writing structure etc), Verbal Reasoning and NVR, in preparation for SATs, 11+,13+, independent /private school entrance examinations or just as a general confidence builder.
I have recently taken and successfully completed external courses for the 11+ and 13+ entrance examinations achieving accredited status and in addition, the exam invigilating courses for both Experienced Invigilators and Access Arrangements in November 2023 (The Exams Office) and an Advanced Safeguarding Children Level 3 course in July 2023, (LBB Workforce).
Graduated in both April 2007 and May 2016, as well as gaining a Distinction in my Teaching Diploma in 2011. Prior to joining the teaching profession, I worked in senior managerial roles at 2 UK International banks in London (City) for almost 4 decades (36 years) until I took unplanned redundancy in December 2010 due to an office relocation to Manchester, hence where my passion, drive and enthusiasm for mathematics and numbers has been derived from.
I have achieved excellent all round results to date (2012- 2022)) and in 2022 all 11 of my private tutees attained top grades ( 6 - 9*) in the new style Maths Higher GCSE examination, which is the equivalent to the old A*- B grades, so I am extremely proud of these recent achievements and keeping up my impeccable record of top grade passes at GCSE. Two tutees passed with a grade 9 (A*grade) and will be going on to join the 6th form at St. Olaves Grammar School, Orpington from their current settings, Wilmington Grammar School for Boys and Chislehurst & Sidcup Grammar School respectively.
This year (2023) all 5 of my private tutees accomplished good passes in their GCSE maths and both my 11+ tutees secured places at a Kent grammar school having successfully achieved top marks in either the Kent or Bexley selective tests, again achievements I am extremely proud of!
I have a current Enhanced DBS (dated August 2023) on the update service which has been approved and verified. References, feedback and testimonials are available from current/past students on request covering the past 7 years. I found out recently that all 9 of my tutees who sat the 11+ Grammar School entrance tests in September 2022 passed and one has been selected to attend the 2nd phase of the St.Olaves Grammar School, Orpington tests, whilst another student acquired a top 180 rating in the Bexley tests, gaining an automatic place at their 1st choice grammar school. I am really elated for them due to their effort and hard work in achieving such fantastic results. In 2022 - 95% of my private tutees passed the selective grammar school tests which was another excellent year for these students who sat them in extremely difficult and challenging conditions.
Concluding, my tutees in 2023 and for the past 14 years have all been very successful in their GCSE maths, achieving consistently high grades, so both parents and I have been immensely proud of their tremendous achievements and superb efforts they have put in all year round to accomplish them. I am hoping for another set of excellent results in the next academic year (2024) to equal those of recent years, albeit it has been a very difficult and challenging time getting through the post pandemic years supporting students who have experienced gaps in their learning.
I am a Full Member of The Tutor Association with MTA designatory status. Recently studied and completed a BA (Hons) degree in Teaching Support and Learning at the University of Greenwich, London 2 days a week. I was nominated for Tutor of the Year in 2018 by several of my tutees parents from a renowned Bromley tutoring franchise.
Married to my wife, Lorraine for over 43 years with 2 sons, aged 31 and 33. I enjoy most sports, especially football, swimming, rugby and cricket. I also like socialising with family and friends, listening to music (70`s/ 80`s), reading autobiographies, DIY, gardening and recently I have started to learn some basic Spanish. I am an ex qualified sports coach and football referee, (now retired) and have also undertaken and completed a cricket umpiring course.
I have worked in several senior posts in the Banking industry for over 36 years (made redundant from RBS, December 2010) as a consequence of my department relocating to the banks Manchester offices due to high rents and operational costs in London. I have a friendly personality and like meeting people from all walks of life, as well as going on holiday to both relax and go sightseeing, and watch local theatre productions.
Availability: 4pm to 8pm weekdays and from 8.30am to 1.30pm on Saturday/Sundays.
Willing to travel: 15 miles
Experience: Over 16 years professional maths tutoring experience up to and including GCSE Higher level, as well as KS2/3 English, Verbal, Non Verbal Reasoning including Spatual. I have worked in 3 primary and 3 secondary schools, predominantly working in the classroom with whole classes, as well as with individuals or small groups of children in Years 4 to 6 and students in Year groups 7-11 to help them enhance and broaden their numeracy knowledge and skills, as well as to offer them additional confidence whilst they are studying the subject.
Currently supporting maths at a local secondary Academy school in Bromley, Kent, working with students of mixed ability either in the classroom, individually or in a small group environment to enhance and raise their ability levels in the subject, as well as giving them additional confidence in the subject. I am very passionate about maths and aim to deliver the lessons in such a way that students will find them easy to follow as well as really enjoying both the structure and content so that they leave the lesson knowing they have learnt a significant amount and are eager to return and learn even more next time in a relaxed and pleasant learning environment. I will always give excellent value for money by way of tuition, focusing my time on enhancing the learning of the student, prioritising the learners individual requirements and ensuring they are making and maintaining steady and acceptable levels of progress throughout their learning.
At my present setting I am currently supporting maths across all year groups (Years 7 to Year 11 inclusive) and in particular, helping students prepare for their forthcoming GCSE exams, either in a classroom environment or in small groups away from the classroom with the focus being on improving their current predicted grades of a 5 to 7 to a higher one.
Over 16 years private tutoring experience with considerable success along the way, as well as having much enjoyment helping and passing on my knowledge, skills and passion to my students during these memorable years. Long may this continue!

I started my tutoring with Wayne about 4 weeks ago and I have thoroughly enjoyed each lesson, it feels like the hour goes so quick! As an adult learner, refreshing my maths has been a daunting task, but Wayne has made each lesson enjoyable, setting the lesson plan to my knowledge level and learning style, and dare I say it, I am actually starting to like maths (that is something I never thought I would say) Wayne is very responsive and adaptive and he can see when I am struggling with a particular area and will go over it until I understand. I would highly recommend Wayne to anyone looking for an experienced tutor, whatever level you are at
