Information about Tai

I have been tutoring for over ten years and am highly experienced at all levels from primary to A-level. I went to King`s College School in Wimbledon before reading English at Oxford. I subsequently trained as an actor at one of the top drama schools (Guildhall School of Music and Drama) before gaining an MA in Philosophy at King`s College London. I have just completed a PhD in Sociology at the University of Birmingham with a thesis on the work of the late philosopher and sociologist Bernard Stiegler (concerning the fate of aesthetic performance in the time of digital media) which I am now developing for book publication.

I have a patient, flexible and fun approach to tutoring ensuring my lessons are individually suited to my students` needs. I work with parents to ensure that there is a clear dialogue about progress, work needed and homework set. I believe education is about teaching and learning good questions to ask, not merely correct answers to give.

I specialise in English, Philosophy, Sociology and Drama at GCSE and A-Level. I am also extremely experienced in 7-11+ admissions to both independent and grammar schools (covering all aspects: English, Maths, Verbal Reasoning, Non-Verbal Reasoning and interview practice).

I have prepared students for successful entrance to several top independent and state schools including:

Charterhouse (11+)
City of London (11+ [x2])
City of London Freemens (11+)
Cranleigh (13+)
Francis Holland (11+)

Between 2008-2013 I was also a performer with and Artistic Director of an improvised theatre company, The Improsarios, and have taught drama and improvisation at the Actors Centre in London, Emanuel School in Battersea and Middlesex University.

Previous student comments:

`Fantastic tutoring by Tai enabled my son to achieve top marks in his English Literature IGCSE.` - Anne

`Tai offered invaluable help and advice to my both my son and daughter through the 11 plus process. He developed their confidence in areas that needed consolidating and offered them practical tips and advice for interview. The sessions were always fun and both children looked forward to them. The lessons looked beyond the process too and were always intellectually stimulating.` - Alex

`My son`s confidence had slowly deteriorated over a period of two years in both English Language and Literature. Within two months, before the 2016 IGCSE exams, Tai patiently and skilfully built up my son`s confidence by going through past papers, showing him different techniques to answer questions and planning literature essays.` - Manisha

`My daughter went from an unclassified to an A in English language within 6 months - she really liked Tai and the way he explained everything and gently encouraged her. She is quite shy and does not like speaking out loud in class but her confidence grew as a result of one to one tutoring.` - Caroline

`Tai`s tutoring was invaluable as I prepared for my English Literature AS Level. His approach to tutoring made every lesson fascinating and thought-provoking with his help, I was able to get an A.` - Lara

`An outstanding tutor. Tai spent around 2 months tutoring my son so that he was prepped and able for his 11+ exams. He was patient and very clear when giving guidance and more importantly he was very encouraging when my son doubted himself. My son passed with flying colours and went in confident and fully prepared.` - Charlotte

`Tai has been an incredible help over the last few months. I highly recommend him to anyone studying English, I would have never felt so confident in Literature without his help!` - Georgina

Tai has recently started tutoring my son for his 11 plus exams. He is friendly and very engaging and my son actually enjoys his lessons (which hasn`t happened with past tutors). He has provided helpful tips and advice in preparing my son for the exams and is slowly helping to build his confidence. I only wish we had started with Tai sooner!

My son 6 years old had 2 lessons with teacher Tai and we will keep the tutoring once a week. He is helping my special need son on English especially on the area of reading comprehension and creative writing. He was very patient and and encouraging to help building confident on my son for his writing and telling a story. He keeps observing my son to see what approach works best for him. He is incorporating between words and pictures as one technique when helping my son to create a story. I was impressed my son can create a short story under his guidance and enjoyed the lessons with him. He is vert punctual every time and responsive when I have any questions to ask. I feel very comfortable to let my son under his tutoring.

My 9-year old son has had 5 sessions with Tai so far. Tai sets high standards, both in outcomes and concentration. He is knowledgeable and well-prepared and focusses on getting my son to use what he knows to work out the answers rather than just cramming in information.
