Information about Rebecca

Psychology is an amazing subject and even if it is never studied for qualifications, it can have a profound effect on its students, making them more analytical about the ideas and attitudes they meet in life. More significantly it gives people the tools to be less judgemental and intolerant of people and cultures that live their lives in different ways to themselves.

Psychology is a complex subject with many standpoints and specialities. In order to master it, students need to develop a diverse range of skills so they can appreciate how biology, culture and behaviourism interact to create an individual mind. It is vital, so, that students learn to think divergently and independently, as route learning can never facilitate a true understanding of this subject. Competency is more about being able to appreciate the scientific process, analysing research and theories effectively and being able to apply knowledge across the topics. Ultimately, students need to be fully equipped with the skills to enable them to thrive, as this fosters the motivation and passion for in-depth understanding.

I am a confident orator and find it easy to hold the focus of my students when delivering lectures but there are a plethora of ways to teach other than lecturing and many teaching strategies are used in my online classes to make the learning experience challenging and rewarding. I am rigorous in ensuring students are well versed in understanding assessment objectives, specifications and examination techniques. I am also meticulous about students learning transferable skills - essay-writing, critical analysis, finding relevant research- as they increase their knowledge of psychology.

I am skilled at identifying and maximising the strengths of each student and learning their weaknesses so that I can better help each individual student excel to his or her potential.

ICT is used extensively to support and complement the tuition themes. I have developed a range of resources that support students’ learning experience, with sections on essay writing, exemplar essays, TED talks, power-points, mark schemes and extension activities.
