Information about Rosie

I`m 27 years old, and I have been tutoring students for over five years. I graduated in 2010 with a first class undergraduate degree in psychology from Royal Holloway, University of London. I then spent two years studying for a masters in neuroscience from Kings College London. During this time I also worked as a research assistant on a cognitive psychology project, and I was even lucky enough to spend some time carrying out research at the Science Museum in London.

I am now in the final stages of my PhD in developmental cognitive neuroscience, based at UCL and Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children. I have recently moved back to Norfolk to focus on writing up my thesis.

I have experience in science writing, and have had articles published in psychology interest publications. I have experience tutoring life sciences students in their writing style for exams and dissertations. I also offer a proofreading service for essays, research projects and dissertations.

My extensive experience in research has provided me with knowledge of advanced research methods, statistics and statistical packages including SPSS and SPM.

Availability: I am available most weekdays as well as evenings and weekends.

I teach psychology (all levels), biology (GCSE & A Level) and neuroscience (all levels). I also teach essay writing, statistics and exam/study skills.

Willing to travel: 15 miles

Experience: I have taught students aged from 15 to middle age, and from a variety of backgrounds. I have experience tutoring students with both physical and learning disabilities, and students with complex needs. I have experience in classroom teaching, and lecturing, but most importantly I have several hundred hours of face-to-face tutoring experience.

Approach to Tutoring:

When it comes to psychology and science, I am passionate and enthusiastic, and I try instil this into my students. To me, a key factor in productive tuition is establishing a good relationship with the student, such that they feel confident telling me when they`re struggling, or don`t understand something. No matter the student`s age, background or behaviour, I always treat them with respect. I avoid behaving as their `teacher` or their superior. There is no writing in silence when I tutor students - a session that is thoughtful and enjoyable and stirs debate is much more conducive to learning than one that is silent and dull!

Testimonials:

"Rosie made all the difference, excellent tutor who helped me so much and really opened up the subject of psychology to me." - S. (Student, A Level Psychology)

"We have no hesitation in highly recommending Rosie...Rosie is a very genuine, kind person, very responsible and hard working...She`s an inspirational teacher." - G. (Parent)

"I found Rosie to be extremely prepared for all sessions, always arriving with a clear plan of our lesson of the day, often bringing extra questions from any areas that I struggled with during earlier weeks. Her knowledge was very vast in my subject area, and she took her time to explain- often more than once- very clearly the often complicated biological processes and terms...I found Rosie’s friendly and enthusiastic approach to be infectious...I would definitely recommend Rosie to anyone looking for a tutor, as I had been taught by a number of different private tutors before and found none of them as helpful and engaging as Rosie, who made an incredible impact on my education, raising my Biology A Level grade a whole 3 grades in the short time of 4 months." - B. (Student, A Level Biology)
