I am approachable, easy going and pragmatic. My tutoring style is open discussion style to engage and promote interactive learning and I encourage students to organise their ideas and learning with notes, preferably mind-maps! but also to build your own library of easy to use video based resources to call upon at your own time and consistent practice in applying learned techniques.
My approach helps build up your confidence, i encourage learning from first principles using simple techniques that assist you to understand, organise, analyse and structure your subject knowledge and apply it as required in class,the workplace and when completing assignments or exams.
These techniques encourage enhanced learning and support a quicker and often easier revision process. Furthermore, it breaks the learning into more easily digestible pieces, that are easier to remember and help you make links (synthesize) to what appears separate and different topics,(synoptic learning) but in fact forms part of something bigger. This approach also supports your ability to better evaluate - recognise patterns, create links and express yourself more effectively with an expanded vocabulary using the appropriate terminology (words). This is now required by your curriculum to increase the level/grade of your response.
Over 20 years coaching and tutoring in a wide spectrum of subjects. Each of which requires a strong grounding in the use of English, application of Science and Maths knowledge and their core principles.
In the last 8 years I have dedicated my time to the preparation from Sats, KS2 to KS4 students for the new curriculum standards at English, English Literature, Sciences, Maths, Business Studies and Accounting at GCSE and then to A levels. The change to the new curriculum require students to go beyond the explicit (what is being said) to explore and interpret (infer) the (implicit) deeper meaning.
Furthermore, in all of their subjects, students are now expected to structure and organise their ideas more effectively applying the techniques but also to link all their knowledge synoptically so that they can interpret the theories,information within new applications.
It has been my pleasure to watch students surprise themselves with the new world of understanding opened by their own capability.
I also tutor at Degree level (including MBA and PhD) for Change Management, Human Resources, Organisational Development .Operations and Finance. In this regard the emphasis is on
helping you solidify your foundation and help build your knowledge synoptically. This approach has been helpful to students who have gaps in their learning missed learning,structuring your essays, assignments or dissertation research. The desired result is to support you to create the links between topics, develop greater personal insights or interpretations, or new perspectives and ideas application - not just within your studies but in your future.
Availability: I tutor in the day, evenings and on weekends, subject to availability at my home or at your location, depending upon distance. This includes Homeschooling.
On specific requests, also subject to availability, I do block tutoring for those students who are a fair distance away as intensive assists. Alternately I also can do interactive online tutoring using a number of easy to use and reliable tools that facilitate screen share, reviewing notes and writing notes. This is especially effective for exam preparation, assisting with dissertations and essays. These tools can also record a session for future revision and reference.
