I am a qualified science teacher and successful A-level and GCSE tutor with over 12 years experience. I have a degree, and masters degree in Chemistry, and I have researched new instrumental analytical techniques at university and in Research & Development in industry. I tutor 1 to 1 and online.
I have always been fascinated with science.
By explaining the theory clearly and giving my students plenty of practice questions where they can demonstrate and apply their knowledge and understanding of the work, my students increase in confidence in the subject and in themselves. My approach is friendly and amenable, and by taking an interest in their progress, I am constantly assessing my students’ skills and abilities.
All my students achieve A, A*, A** grades, and go on to top universities to study medicine or the medical sciences.
Availability: I am available from Monday to Friday during the morning, afternoon and evening, and on Saturday and Sunday mornings.

Experience: I have more than twelve years experience as a Science and Maths Tutor. I am a qualified science teacher, having taught in the secondary schools for a number of years. My work in schools gives me contact with the latest curriculum and exam board specifications. In addition, I have invaluable experience gained from doing research in analytical chemistry at university and in industry. I provide my students with material to explain the topics and also continually assess their progress in developing the necessary study skills and their ability to answer exam questions, and develop exam technique. Many of my students want to study medicine, veterinary science, or dentistry at university, and I am so glad to help them achieve the necessary high grades.

Through Tutor Hunt I was able to engage Julian to assist my grandaughter in chemistry and biology as she prepared for her GCSE. Julian was very helpful in arraging a suitable time for the tutorial and very proactive in ensuring he understood my grandaughter`s current understanding of the subjects. This informed his preparation for his work with my grandaughter. I found Julian very responsive to my emails and I was able to contact him directly to discuss some aspects of his work prior to the tutorial. The feedback from my grandaughter was very positive and she was looking forward to continuing to work with him. As chance would have it her school offered her after school support in these subjects. As she could not do both her tutorials with Julian did n continue as planned. This was unfortunate and is not a reflection of his qualities as a highly qualified and very personable tutor. I have no hesitation in recommending Julian to anyone seeking a tutor for their child.

Julian helped my Y13 son understand a topic in Chemistry he found difficult - we had a one off-lesson as my son was struggling with the topic and needed extra help. By the end of the lesson my son understood it fully. Julian was professional, clear and a great help. I can fully recommend Julian for A level Chemistry Dr W Jones

Thank you for your positive feedback. Soloman listened attentively to my explanation of the mechanisms of the addition reactions of halogens and sulfuric acid to the alkenes. He asked relevant and thoughtful questions about these reactions and in particular on the addition polymerization of small alkenes to give the "modern" plastics, such as poly(ethene) and PVC.
I would be pleased to assist Solly, if he needs my help in future.

Julian was very knowledgeable and clearly has a passion for teaching. He was very flexible in scheduling and rescheduling the lessons to fit around our needs. Unfortunately my son decided that he no longer wanted additional tutoring but I would not hesitate in engaging Julian’s support again in the future if my son changed his mind.

I learn a lot every lesson. Although my lessons are focused more on exam questions, Julian still makes sure to consolidate my knowledge on topics that I am less comfortable with. He also links topics and subjects together very well which vastly improves my understanding of the whole course.

We`ve only been with Julian for a few lessons but our daughter feels she has already made an improvement in Biology so we`re very happy. He has also been flexible in terms of lesson times which has been very helpful.

Tutor Julian has helped my daughter understand problem areas in A lvl Chemistry and I am happy to recommend him, should the need arise we will be looking for his tutoring again over the next week or so and in a few year time with my youngest daughter

My son found Julian to be enthusiastic with an extensive knowledge about his subject, and a good communicator. He has been studying A Level Biology on line up to now and really needed some input into where he was up to and clarification of some areas that he didn`t fully understand, and Julian provided this. He really enjoyed the lesson and is looking forward to future lessons with Julian.

Julian has been huge support to our son for his studies for GCSE Maths and all 3 sciences. The level of tutoring has been appropriate to where either supplementary teaching has been necessary or where re-cap work has been needed. A great support for both pre exam work and general study in non exam time. His teaching methods have suited our son very well, and he always comes away from a session with Julian very motivated. i have no hesitation in recommending Julian as a private tutor. Our son studies at Julian`s home address which is geared to ensuring a good working environment.
